slide number 7

RF Armed Forces

Ground Forces (SV), equipped with various types of military equipment and weapons, include military command and control bodies, motorized rifle, tank troops, missile troops and artillery, air defense troops (Air Defense), which are military branches, as well as special troops (formations and units intelligence, communications, engineering, nuclear-technical, technical support, automotive and rear security), military units and rear institutions, other military units, institutions, enterprises and organizations.

slide number 8

Tasks to be solved by the RF Armed Forces

The main tasks of the ground forces are classified depending on the situation and are divided into three types: in peacetime, in a threatened period, and during hostilities.

In peacetime, SVs are required to:

  • maintain combat potential and a high level of personnel training
  • ensuring readiness for operational and mobilization deployment
  • preparation of command and control centers and units for the conduct of hostilities
  • creation of stockpiles of weapons, military equipment, materiel and readiness for their use
  • participation in peacekeeping missions
  • participation in the aftermath of accidents, catastrophes and natural disasters

slide number 9

Tasks to be solved by the RF Armed Forces

During the threatened period, the SV perform tasks of a different kind:

  • increasing the number of personnel and increasing the combat and mobilization readiness of troops
  • strengthening the forces and means of combat duty, as well as reconnaissance for similar forces of a potential enemy
  • operational deployment of groupings of troops in threatened directions
  • increase in reserve preparation volumes
  • participation in carrying out certain measures of territorial defense
  • preparation of weapons and military equipment for combat use, building up the base of logistics and the capabilities of repair bodies
  • covering the state border
  • preparation of initial defensive operations.

Tasks to be solved by the RF Armed Forces

In wartime, the following tasks arise before the SV:

  • strategic deployment of the Russian army
  • localization of possible conflicts and defense using permanent readiness units, and, if necessary, reserve units
  • conducting defensive and counter-offensive operations together with the CSTO member countries
  • participation in repelling an aerospace attack and enemy landings
  • participation in the conduct of territorial defense.

On March 23, 1946, by order of the Chief of the General Staff of the USSR Armed Forces, Marshal of the Soviet Union A.M. Vasilevsky, issued on the basis of a resolution of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR of February 25, 1946, a governing body was formed - the Main Command of the Ground Forces. The first Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces was Marshal of the Soviet Union G.K. Zhukov, who at the same time was Deputy People's Commissar of the Armed Forces of the USSR for the Ground Forces.

Slide 8

Since 2009, as part of giving the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation a new look, significant structural transformations have taken place in the Ground Forces. Brigades of constant readiness became the main tactical unit of the SV instead of bulky and difficult to manage divisions. As a result, the troops have become more compact and mobile, capable of successfully conducting highly maneuverable combat operations in modern wars and armed conflicts without carrying out additional measures to resupply formations and units.

GROUND TROOPS
The Ground Forces (SV) are the most numerous and diverse branch of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in terms of armament and methods of combat operations. SV are designed to conduct combat operations mainly on land. In terms of their combat capabilities, they are capable of interacting with other branches of the Russian Armed Forces, conducting an offensive in order to defeat the enemy grouping and seizing its territory, deliver fire strikes to a great depth, repel the enemy’s invasion, its large airborne assault forces, and firmly hold the occupied territories, areas and lines.

1. MOTOR RIFLE TROOPS
The most numerous branch of the military, which forms the basis of the ground forces and the core of its battle formations, designed to conduct combat operations independently and together with other branches of the military and special forces. Motorized rifle brigades, which have high combat independence, versatility and firepower, form the basis of motorized rifle troops. They are capable of conducting combat operations under the conditions of using both conventional means of armed struggle and weapons of mass destruction in various physical, geographical and climatic conditions, day and night.

Slide 17

1. MOTOR RIFLE TROOPS
They perform tasks: in defense - to hold the occupied areas, lines and positions, repel enemy attacks and defeat his advancing groupings; in an offensive (counter-offensive) - to break through the enemy's defenses, defeat groupings of his troops, capture important areas, lines and facilities, force water barriers, pursue the retreating enemy; conduct oncoming battles and battles, operate as part of naval and tactical airborne assault forces.

Slide 18

In MSV, in addition to the main motorized rifle, there are tank, artillery, anti-tank, anti-aircraft, anti-aircraft missile, as well as special units and units. Modern motorized rifle troops are characterized by the presence of modern missile systems, which significantly increases their firepower. The main distinguishing feature of MSVs is their high mobility and maneuverability. This increases the ability of motorized rifle troops to switch from one type of combat operations to another in a short time, allows them to alternate strike and maneuver, quickly change direction and areas of operations, and carry out dispersal and concentration.

Slide 39

5. SPECIAL TROOPS
The special forces of the ground forces include: reconnaissance troops; Signal Corps; electronic warfare troops; technical support troops; topographical troops; hydrometeorological troops; rear of ground troops.

Slide 40

INTELLIGENCE TROOPS
For the successful conduct of modern combat, it is necessary, first of all, to know the enemy well, his forces, means and nature of the action. To provide these data to commanders and staffs of all levels, there is the most important type of combat support for troop operations - reconnaissance. Only where reconnaissance is carried out successfully and actively, purposefully, combat missions are solved successfully and with the least losses. On the contrary, poorly organized reconnaissance has always been the main reason for the failure of military operations. This is evidenced by the experience of conducting combat operations during the Great Patriotic War, during the operations of a limited contingent of Soviet troops in Afghanistan, and during operations to combat illegal armed formations in Chechnya.

Slide 41

SIGNAL CORPS
Military communications are an integral part of command and control of the Armed Forces, its material basis. The efficiency of command and control of troops, the timeliness of the use of combat means and weapons largely depend on its condition and functioning. In its development, military communications have traveled a long and difficult path, inextricably linked with the history of the creation of the Armed Forces, changes in the forms and methods of their use, and the improvement of military art. From the simplest sound and visual means of communication for transmitting signals and commands directly on the battlefield to widely branched multi-channel, modern automated systems capable of providing communication over an almost unlimited range with both stationary and moving objects located on land, on water, under water and in the air - this is the historical path of development and improvement of military communications

Slide 42

ENGINEERING TROOPS
ENGINEERING TROOPS, special troops designed for engineering support of military operations of troops. In the Russian army, they consist of engineer-sapper (sapper), engineering-road, pontoon-bridge, crossing-landing and other formations, units and subunits. They are equipped with a variety of high-performance equipment for the implementation of complex labor-intensive engineering work, various crossing-landing and pontoon-bridge facilities for forcing water barriers at high rates, and means for the rapid creation of anti-tank, anti-personnel and other barriers.

slide 43

The troops of radiation, chemical and biological protection are special troops of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Their main purpose is to organize the protection of troops, the population and rear facilities from radiation, chemical and biological hazards both in peacetime and in wartime. Thus, the troops of radiation, chemical and biological protection are currently entrusted with the following tasks: detection and detection of nuclear explosions; conducting radiation, chemical and biological reconnaissance, conducting dosimetric and chemical control; assessment of the radiation, chemical and biological situation after the use by the enemy of weapons of mass destruction, destruction (accidents) of radiation, chemical, biologically hazardous objects;

Slide 44

TROOPS OF RADIATION, CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL PROTECTION
implementation of special processing of personnel, weapons, equipment, disinfection of terrain and military facilities; control over changes in the degree of contamination of the area with radioactive products; inflicting losses on the enemy by using incendiary weapons; aerosol countermeasures against highly accurate weapons and enemy reconnaissance equipment; implementation of aerosol (smoke) camouflage of troops and objects; supply of formations and units with weapons and means of radiation, chemical and biological protection; repair of weapons and means of radiation, chemical and biological protection; assessment of the consequences and forecasting of possible radiation, chemical and biological conditions; elimination of the consequences of accidents (destructions) at radiation, chemically and biologically hazardous objects.

Slide 45

CONNECTIONS, PARTS AND INSTITUTIONS OF THE LOGO
Modern combined-arms combat is primarily characterized by the widespread use of nuclear missile weapons and the participation of a large number of troops in it. It is also characterized by great tension, maneuverability, high rates, rapid and abrupt changes in the situation, actions by subunits and units in separate directions and with a separation from the main forces. Modern combat will require a significant expenditure of ammunition, fuel, lubricants and other materiel. In the course of hostilities, it will become necessary to organize the evacuation and repair of a large number of armored, automotive and tractor equipment and weapons, as well as the evacuation and provision of medical care to the wounded and sick. Consequently, logistics is one of the important factors that ensure victory in battle. It includes measures to organize and implement the material, technical and medical support of the troops. The rear units and subunits with stocks of materiel, which are part of the formations, units and subunits, constitute the military rear. They are intended for their material, technical and medical support. Consequently, the military rear consists of the rear of divisions, regiments and battalions, it is a grassroots link that directly provides units, subunits and each serviceman with everything necessary for life and combat.

Slide 46

PARTS AND SUBDIVISIONS OF TECHNICAL SUPPORT
Special technical support includes: - nuclear technical; - rocket-technical; - technical and metrological. In turn, technical support, along with support by type of equipment: - artillery and technical; - tank-technical; - auto-technical; - engineering and technical; - chemical and technical; - engineering and aviation (including technical support for rear services); - technical support of communication facilities and automated control systems.
