How Belarusian Oleg Novitsky returned to earth: “... Impact on the Earth. Very strong

02.06.2017 - 20:40

News of Belarus. Star return to earth. Our compatriot Oleg Novitsky completed his last space flight on June 2. A truly national cosmonaut spent 197 days on the international space station, the 24 Hours News program on STV reported.

However, all this time he was in touch with us. He congratulated Belarus, periodically other cities from space and kept in weightlessness a very important and dear thing for himself - the Belarusian flag. It is Novitsky.

By the way, our countryman landed in central Kazakhstan. In a few days the cosmonaut will be in Moscow. So he will fulfill his "space" dream of "walking barefoot on the ground" in the next few hours. They are also waiting for him in Belarus, especially in the cosmonaut's native Cherven. After all, it was there that Novitsky's first small step turned out to be huge - for astronautics as a whole.

About how Belarusian Oleg Novitsky spent more than half a year on the ISS for the third time in the history of manned cosmonautics, he himself told and showed thanks to the Internet.

Oleg Novitsky, cosmonaut:
Hi all! I am cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky.

For 196 days, 17 hours and 29 minutes he did not set foot on the ground. Nearly 400 kilometers above the planet. It's just like from Minsk to Brest, but a completely different world. As Novitsky himself admits more than once, it is here that true friendship is known.

Here it is - a magnificent six - with the number 50 at the very heart - after all, the expedition is jubilee.

Photos of Gagarin, Popov and, of course, what reminds me so much of my homeland.

Oleg Novitsky, cosmonaut:
I want to say hello to my native Belarus. To all my countrymen.

And this is Novitsky's space apartment. To earthly standards, not space at all - just a couple of square meters.

But what a view from the window.

From this window, everything is great: here is the island of Rhodes, which looks like a bat, Volgograd at night (what a crocodile for you), the famous palm tree in the Emirates - which of us saw it like that. And, of course, Minsk, so reminiscent of a fiery bicycle.

Oleg Novitsky, cosmonaut:
I hasten to please fellow countrymen! Finally, today I managed to take a photo of Minsk at night!

Minsk will fall into the lens of our star countryman more than once. Day and night. There will be both Gomel and Brest.

But here it is - the main earthly photograph of Novitsky - a family in the porthole. It was she who so warmed the soul all these long months.

March 25 is the most joyful and at the same time dreary day of the space odyssey. My youngest daughter is one year old.

Oleg Novitsky, cosmonaut:
In the morning, my wife sent me a photo taken exactly a year ago. Ritukha has been here for 48 minutes, and they have already given me to hold her.

But to support your neighbor is the main principle of cosmic coexistence. There is no ambulance, no barbershop.

Here, next to Novitsky, is the same Frenchman with whom we flew home together today.

Oleg Novitsky, cosmonaut:
I work as a space hairdresser. And on the side, everything you need to shave, brush your teeth and comb your hair.

And here they are moments of happiness - parcels from the Earth - from the closest ones.

Oleg Novitsky, cosmonaut:
Parcel from Earth: birch sap, Belarusian T-shirt and chocolate.

Who works well, eats well. Lunch in space is a must. The main principle is natural, satisfying and healthy. By the way, the main space chef, also from Belarus, prepares such dinners on Earth. And the star menu is like in the best houses.

Oleg Novitsky, cosmonaut:
Eggplant stewed with potatoes, beetroot salad, overseas eggplant caviar and assorted meats.

For six months on the ISS, Novitsky conducted hundreds of scientific experiments. Here, for example, is one of them: to find out how the usual loads for earthlings act in zero gravity.

Or here's another: how the composition of the blood changes with a lack of oxygen.

And this, attention, is the provision of first aid in weightlessness. Heart massage in space is given in this way.

Oleg Novitsky, cosmonaut:
Yes, yes, upside down and clinging to the handrail with your feet. And it won't work any other way in space.

For physical activity at such a height, the physical form should be at the level. Although body weight in zero gravity is a relative thing. And yes, it's hard to measure.

But life on the ISS is not only scientific experiments. These are also the most ordinary cosmic everyday life, where nothing human is alien even to the superman. As it was with Exupery: get up in the morning and put the planet in order. Or at least a space station.

General cleaning on the ISS, as well as on Earth, before the holidays.

All holidays on the ISS are necessarily congratulations from space. February 23 - to the defenders of the Fatherland, March 8 - to the beautiful half of the Earth. And, of course, Happy Victory Day to everyone.

Oleg Novitsky, cosmonaut:
These are my grandparents. Thanks to them for their feat and for the peaceful sky overhead.

The sky above is not about the space station. The sky is everywhere. But it is best seen from the dome. Here it is a few hours before landing. The last photo of Novitsky aboard the ISS.

Oleg Novitsky, cosmonaut:
On Earth, I will miss these mesmerizing space landscapes.

He arrived, but promised to return - to his stars. And more than once, be sure to say the same “Gagarin” - “Let's go”!

Oleg Novitsky, cosmonaut:
Just raise your head and the stars will get closer.

The return is watched by journalists from Russia, Belarus and France. Together with Oleg Novitsky in the descent vehicle - French astronaut Thomas Pesce.

For more than half a year of work in space, fifty scientific studies have been carried out.

This is the second flight for Oleg Novitsky. In this expedition he was the commander of the crew. All this time, Oleg Novitsky was with the national flag of Belarus: on it there are official marks on the dates of docking and undocking of the Soyuz MS-03 spacecraft with the international space station. After returning, Oleg Novitsky will give it to the Museum of the Belarusian Embassy in Moscow.

And European astronaut Tom Peske. Their descent vehicle of the Soyuz MS-03 spacecraft successfully landed in the Kazakh steppes. They went into orbit on November 17, 2016.

As a rule, personal communication with journalists after the flight, doctors try to strictly limit or even prohibit. The cosmonauts are undergoing an acute rehabilitation period (about 21 days) under close medical supervision, plus a number of scientific and medical experiments are being carried out with the body, which began in space and are completed already on Earth. But for the TASS agency, the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center (CTC) made an exception, and already on the sixth day after Oleg Viktorovich's busy "clinical schedule" he managed to find time for personal communication.

    Good health

For Oleg Novitsky, this was already the second flight: he first went into orbit in 2012 and was there for 144 days. This time the flight lasted 197 days. It would seem that what to do in weightlessness for so long, but in fact, almost every day of the astronauts is scheduled, says Novitsky. In each flight, an average of 40 to 50 different experiments are performed. At the same time, there are those that experts develop for a specific expedition, and some have been going on for decades. The results of the experiments are transmitted to Earth, where they become the subject of study by scientists.

Work on the ISS lays the foundation for future interplanetary flights, so many experiments in orbit are related to the influence of space on the human body, aimed, for example, at preventing the effects of radiation. An unprepared person (and even more so with poor health) is not able to withstand this.

His wife is a blogger, and her husband is there All the 197 days that Oleg was in orbit, his wife Yulia Novitskaya kept a blog on the official website of Roscosmos, in which she told how “space” families live, gave interesting facts about her husband and about the life of everything crew of ISS-50/51. In particular, she wrote that throughout the entire flight, every day of her husband in orbit was scheduled by the minute, but even after landing, “nothing has changed.”

Oleg does not lag behind his wife - he has Instagram, which he led both while in orbit and after returning to Earth. For example, “veloergometry is performed to assess the state of the cardiovascular system and the effectiveness of rehabilitation measures,” he writes. And his wife Yulia blogs about her “favorite” experiment called “Algometry” and at the same time specifies that “there can be no injuries and burns, since restrictions are set on the device.”

Novitsky says that after the flight, being in the CPC dispensary under the supervision of doctors and medical staff, the appropriate work and rest regimen must be observed. Rehabilitation activities are constantly carried out: massage, swimming pool and sauna. “Everything is aimed at bringing the body to the maximum level faster,” he clarifies.

Schoolchildren often ask cosmonauts about medicine and physical education in orbit during educational programs and communication with them. True, says Novitsky, basically what we do is this: the guys see us, but we don’t see them. “They heard something somewhere and want to get an answer from the source. Well, we tell them and show them what we can. But usually questions are sent in advance, as there may be interruptions in communication,” he says.

    Favorite potato after a flight

Novitsky was born and raised in Belarus (the city of Cherven), where he graduated from high school. Oleg Viktorovich made his “first culinary landing order” for his wife back in April, while on the ISS. She did not even doubt the choice of the dish: “What Belarusian does not like fried potatoes?”

At this moment, the astronaut looks at the crew doctor and smiles. He clarifies: "You can ... within reasonable limits." “You see, that’s all. I ordered potatoes and potato pancakes for my wife upon arrival. And the meat was fried,” continues Novitsky. “In principle, there are no restrictions, there should be a normal balanced healthy diet. And you can even Coca-Cola, but I don't like it. I love morsiks,” he laughs.

An "orbital" festive table is organized when a "truck" arrives from Earth. “Fresh vegetables and fruits are always a holiday. And, of course, we try to save them, especially for some significant date,” says Novitsky.

The food ration at the station is scheduled in order: breakfast, lunch and dinner. Of course, sometimes astronauts change something depending on the taste preferences of everyone.

At first, Oleg Viktorovich speaks about alcohol in orbit seriously, and then a little ironically: “There is no question, since it is prohibited. Probably the most alcoholic thing that can be at the station is alcohol wipes.

In her blog, Yulia writes that in addition to the usual 16-day diet, astronauts have “bonus containers” on board. What exactly is included there, they decide on Earth. The choice of a husband seemed to her very diverse.

“Although, whatever one may say, all this will not replace the usual fried potatoes,” she sums up.

    Space debris and "polluted" Europe

Cosmonauts are specialists in all areas, they use all the equipment in orbit in full. A lot of work related to the observation of the Earth's surface.

Novitsky enjoys taking pictures, especially sunrises and sunsets. “Red, blue, yellow colors and at the same time black space. I really liked that Minsk turned out like a 3D picture in the rays of the setting sun,” he rejoices.

The astronaut also talks about the problem of space debris in orbit. In his flight, there was only one time when it was necessary to correct the orbit. But the astronauts are warned about this in advance from the Earth. But if in the future the object can enter the dangerous boundaries of approach to the station, says Novitsky, then the engines of the Russian segment turn on and the orbit rises a little. This can be done by the ISS crew itself, but this is mainly done from the MCC.

The station's orbit passes approximately along the central strip of Russia - from Moscow to Chelyabinsk. Therefore, when people from the Earth are asked to send photographs of St. Petersburg or Kaliningrad - they are already farther north and far - a clear and beautiful picture is no longer obtained.

One of the tasks of the ISS crew is to predict ground-based natural and man-made disasters. And during the Ekon experiment, Russian cosmonauts collect information for an ecological survey of various objects on Earth.

Speaking about the environmental situation in the United States and European countries, Novitsky clarifies that “I would not say about the cleanliness of Europe ... it is very densely populated, and therefore everything is also clearly visible. We're not as bad as they say."

    Rest according to schedule

Rise at the station at 6 am, after that hygienic procedures and breakfast. “Then the conference (with MCC. - Approx. TASS). The work execution program arrives the night before, we verify it. We are also verifying ballistic information for an emergency descent,” says the cosmonaut. From 7:30, work and tasks begin, each of which is given a certain amount of time, as planned. Physical education and meals - everything is scheduled for the whole day. And at the end of the day, the results are summed up, a conference with the MCC, where the astronauts report on the work that they have completed. Then - dinner and time to prepare for the next working day or a little rest. Lights out at 21:30.

In their free time, astronauts watch films and communicate with their loved ones by phone (IP-telephony). True, you can only make calls from orbit to Earth, and not vice versa. Novitsky called his wife almost every day, and she could only send him photos and small videos by e-mail. Video communication was once a week for 30-50 minutes.

The official language at the station is English, but, naturally, more and more people communicate in "mixtures of languages". Novitsky explains that the astronauts study Russian while preparing for the flight, we study English. Comparing work on the ISS, the astronaut speaks of a small difference.

    Way home

Novitsky says that the process of preparing for the descent is tense, astronauts are constantly busy. “And the other day Oleg and Toma changed the expedition stripes on their spacesuits. They started as part of the 50th expedition, and are returning as part of the 51st,” Yulia wrote in her blog.

The journey from the ISS to Earth takes about three hours, two orbits. Novitsky explains that from the moment of undocking and already on the second orbit, deceleration and entry into the dense layers of the atmosphere occur. When descending, the maximum overloads reach 4.67g.

After the astronauts are taken out of the descent vehicle, a visual inspection takes place, their pulse and pressure are measured. As Julia recalled in her blog, “my husband’s pulse was slightly elevated - 90 beats (although it gradually decreased), and the pressure was a little bit - 140 to 90, almost like that of an astronaut.”

At the end of our short conversation (the doctor hints that it’s time for procedures), Oleg Viktorovich says that space flight “on Earth has nothing to compare with, you get such a charge of joy and adrenaline at the same time.” "Delight!" - he smiles, especially during the withdrawal and descent. “They are the most critical regimes, but also the most disturbing to the blood,” the astronaut clarifies.

At the end of this year, the Main Medical Commission should be held, which may recognize Oleg Viktorovich fit for the next space flights. And then everything will start all over again for him. “Let Oleg just fly ... To be honest, we really want this!” - the wife of the Hero of Russia Oleg Novitsky wrote on June 24 in her blog.

The editors of the TASS website thank the press service of the TsPK them. Gagarin for help in preparing the material.

Expedition 51 spent more than half a year on the International Space Station. The work of the cosmonauts was also watched by the viewers of the ONT TV channel all this time. Every week, our correspondents introduced us to life on the ISS, as well as everything that happens in the Mission Control Center. And today the ONT film crew watched the landing in the steppes of Kazakhstan. How long was the journey home and who was waiting for the astronauts? The crew with the call sign "Kazbek" was met by Svetlana Karulskaya.

The landing of a spacecraft is one of the main and most important stages of a successful "star" mission. For the Belarusian Oleg Novitsky, this is already the second exam, which he, as the commander of the Soyuz spacecraft, managed to pass with excellent marks. 197 days at an altitude of 400 kilometers without emergency situations, dozens of scientific experiments carried out in orbit. And most importantly - a trouble-free meeting with the Earth.

The mission control center began preparing a meeting for the ISS Expedition 51 crew a few weeks before landing. The most suitable ballistics zone was named the area located 147 kilometers southeast of the city of Zhezkazgan in Kazakhstan. Participants of the search and rescue operation went there in three days: transport aircraft, 14 vehicles, six cross-country search and recovery vehicles and 150 military personnel. All this time, their work was coordinated by the specialists of the MCC. At 10 a.m. Korolev gave the command to close the access hatches between the ISS and the Rassvet Docking Module.». After checking all the main systems, the Soyuz MS-03 spacecraft undocked and headed for Earth. The way home took the astronauts a little more than three hours.

In the Soyuz, only two crew members returned home today: the Belarusian Novitsky and the Frenchman Thomas Pesce. The ISS commander, American Peggy Whitson, who launched on the Soyuz MS-03, was extended the trip for another four months.

The hatches are open, and the astronauts can finally breathe in the steppe air. Their first minutes on earth are closely watched by relatives. For Yulia Novitskaya, Oleg's wait was the longest. The eldest daughter Yana went to the start at Baikonur. Julia, with the younger Rita, was watching everything from the hall of the Mission Control Center. Now, he says, you can finally step down from the duties of the head of the family and be just a wife. The favorite potato pie, which Oleg ordered for planting, is already ready.

Yulia Novitskaya, wife of cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky : « He ordered fried pork ribs and a potato pie. The ribs are already fried, and the pie is still in the process. I'll finish it when I get home."
Yana Novitskaya, daughter of cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky: “We made dad a balloon rocket. She stands and waits for him at home. And the same inscription from the balloons: "With landing!"

From the frames from the screen of the Control Center, relatives can see how difficult it is for the astronauts. Landing is a huge stress for the body. The first are allowed to the medical crew. Right in the steppe, doctors conduct a field test: they measure all vital signs and study how the absence of gravity affects the body. It seems that overcoming is also part of the "star" profession. Now the astronauts will do this work at home.

It is too early to say that Oleg Novitsky has completely completed his business trip. Tonight the crew of Expedition 51 of the ISS is to fly from Kazakhstan to Moscow. Relatives will be able to see the astronauts at the airfield. And right from there, the doctors will take Oleg Novitsky and Tom Peske to the dispensary, where the rehabilitation period and a series of post-flight experiments will begin. Judging by the fact that Oleg Novitsky made an appointment for journalists on Monday, the recovery of our compatriot will not be long.

Now Oleg Novitsky is getting used to the earth's gravity, undergoing medical examinations in Star City and communicating with relatives whom he has not seen for more than six months. Cosmic landscapes on his Instagram were replaced by earthly shots: a potato pie prepared by a caring wife, the first walk after returning with his youngest daughter, who recently turned one year old ...

We laugh that for the first one or two days she will walk better than dad, Oleg's wife Yulia said on the eve of his return. After all, the first days of the astronaut, who spent 196 days in weightlessness, it is hard to walk - he feels weak, gets used to gravity. However, now recovery is faster than after the first flight.

In orbit, Oleg conducted a lot of research and experiments. During his stay on the ISS, he even had to put a seal on himself - doctors from Earth told him in detail how to do it ...

All operations for descent from orbit and landing took place normally. The well-being of the crew members who returned to Earth is good, Roskosmos said.

Photos of the landing look like frames from a science fiction movie: a black capsule descends on a parachute, inside of which Oleg and his French colleague Tom Pesce are located. But before that, even more impressive events occur ...

In the atmosphere, the apparatus heats up to an extremely high temperature of +2000 degrees. To prevent people from being hurt, it has a special protective coating and a heat shield. When descending, the astronauts see through the porthole that their capsule is on fire. By the time it reaches a height of 10.8 km, the speed of the descent vehicle drops from 28,000 to 800 km/h. The fire is gone. To further reduce the speed, the pyrotechnic system for shooting off the lid of the parachute container is activated, and then the parachutes begin to open sequentially. The descent vehicle of the spacecraft must land on Earth at a speed of no more than 2 m/s. How do the astronauts feel during the descent?

"The ship turns into a stone that falls to Earth"

Oleg's wife, Yulia Novitskaya, in her diary on the Roscosmos website, talks about how the return takes place:

“After the automatics turn off the engines, the ship turns from an artificial satellite of the Earth into a stone falling to the Earth along a ballistic trajectory. Here, other devices come into play, which ensure the operation of the systems so that the ship enters the atmosphere smoothly, and the descent takes place in automatic mode ...

... How the color of the plasma changes from brown-red to bright, like a light, and back, the commander of the ship can still see. All this is accompanied by a step overload, which then subsides. In addition to overloading, reentry is accompanied by a lot of vibration, as if your car is driving over good bumps on rims only, without tires. Add to this the strongest rumble, more than in the subway ... "

"Overload, the strongest chatter and buildup"

“... Then a characteristic sound and blow is the moment the lines come out and the parachute opens, first the exhaust, then the main one. Again overload, the strongest chatter and buildup. Then a twist and a twist. The crew feels all this physically and perfectly understands what is happening. And so they descend under a parachute. A search and rescue aircraft contacts them, they are interested in the well-being of the crew and the parameters of reentry into the atmosphere. The latter is important for ballistics to calculate landing coordinates.

The next stage is the shooting of the frontal thermal protection and pressure equalization. Helicopters take astronauts all the way to Earth. Starting from a height of 450 meters, the “silence” mode sets in - you can’t talk, so as not to bite off your tongue and break your jaw during landing. Hands are crossed on the chest, on-board documentation lies on the knees. Just a little bit and ... hitting the Earth. Very strong. All! You're back!"
