Preface to the Collection
This project was conceived in 2003 - on the eve of the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the most famous prophet of our era. The collection of translations of his prophetic texts is the main and most valuable part of the new project. It took about two years to prepare and implement it. At the end of the autumn of 2005, Russian-speaking admirers of Nostradamus' work received what they had been missing for so long - the best versions of Russian translations of the Centuries grouped into blocks. Researchers of all stripes can now rely on a single textual basis in search of a "key" that allows them to open the main cipher of Nostradamus's "super puzzle".
The Collection mainly includes the so-called "classical" versions of translations. At one time they were made by professional translators from photocopies of the "original" texts. Here, the text in modern French is presented as the "source".
The prophetic heritage of Nostradamus presented within the framework of this project includes:
968 verses (quatrains) collected in twelve books (Centuries),
- two prose letters - to the son of Caesar and Henry the Second,
- one letter addressed to the canons of the city of Orange.
- testament with addition to it.
In addition, the first part of the previously unknown book of Nostradamus "The Interpretation of the Hieroglyphs of Horapollon" is presented here.
It is necessary to say separately about one additional off-system quatrain with the conditional number "1001". It is included in the total number of quatrains (968). Some researchers tend to attribute it to the 10th Centurion. However, in the Collection this quatrain, for certain reasons, is deliberately separated into an independent part. This is discussed in more detail in the "Deciphering the Prophecies" section.
About translations
The collection of Russian translations of the prophecies of Nostradamus is separated into a separate part of the information project. There are four translation options. Of these, the first two are presented in full. The rest of the options are partial.
First option translation, standing in the block immediately after the "original" text (in modern French), was made by professional Kyiv translators V. B. Burbelo and E. A. Solomarskaya. For the first time this translation was published in 1991 by the Kiev publishing house "Lybid" under the general title - "Prophecies of Michel Nostradamus, revised and corrected from a copy printed in Lyon by Benoit Rigaud in 1568". Subsequently, the above-mentioned texts of the Kyiv translators were widely and uncontrollably distributed on the worldwide information network, settling on various sites of Nostradamus admirers.
Second option translation was published in the famous book “Nostradamus: a look through the centuries. Centuria, printed in 1999 by the Moscow publishing house Bookman. At the very beginning of the main section of "Centuries" (p. 186) it is noted that the translation from Old French was made by Leonid Zdanovich. However, upon closer examination, it turned out that the texts presented in this book as translations are in fact a simplified version (unauthorized interpolation) of the translation of the Kyiv professionals named above. However, regarding the translation, a brief annotation to this book says that it is "a complete (interlinear, and therefore not distorted by a zealous translator) collected works of Michel Nostradamus." A thorough check of the texts of the writer Zdanovich showed that they contained a lot of technical typos. In this Collection they are eliminated and included in a special list.
Third option translation (separate selective quatrains) was made by an astrologer, candidate of historical sciences, a well-known specialist in predictions Alexei Penzensky.

Book translation"Interpretation of the hieroglyphs of Grapollon" (1st part) was performed by Denis Morozov. In 2004, his translation was published by the AST publishing house under other names: “The Message of Nostradamus. Interpretation of hieroglyphs of Horapollon. Moscow, AST, Astrel, 2004. The author of the translation in his open letter suggests that this became possible due to the fact that he did not communicate with the editors directly, but through an intermediary who turned out to be dishonest.
Address to readers
The author of the project hopes that the appearance of this Collection in the global information network will activate the emergence in the Russian-speaking environment of a community (association) of independent researchers inspired by a common goal - to present to the world a strong justification for the special significance of the works of Michel Nostradamus. The organizing core of the new community can be an advanced group of independent researchers who show a special inclination to penetrate into the depths of phenomena. Popularization of the information arising from the decoding of the prophetic heritage of Nostradamus will contribute to the reconstruction of a holistically unified Knowledge about the World.
Please report all inaccuracies and technical typos found in the texts of translations to the author of the project. You can also send other acceptable translations of Nostradamus texts with a brief justification for the changes or any additions. Variants of the most successful translations will be included in subsequent editions of the Collection.
On November 17, 1558, Queen Elizabeth I Tudor ascended the English throne, dramatically changing the political orientation of the country. Protestantism was restored in England.
Nostradamus predicted the coronation of Elizabeth I in quatrain X, 19:
The day she'll be greeted like a queen
The day when after the blessing - a prayer.
A large number is correct.
She was modest before, but will never be (another) so proud.
The same theme can be traced in quatrain VI, 74:
The outcast (or banished) will return to the kingdom.
Her enemies will be exposed as conspirators.
Her time will be one of triumph more than ever.
Three and seventy to death for sure.
True, Elizabeth I lived not 73, but only 70 years, but this difficulty can be circumvented when interpreting the prediction, if we assume that the number three standing separately indicates the date of death - 1603.
Quatrain X, 84 can also be attributed to the same cycle of Nostradamus's prophecies:
The illegitimate daughter is so tall
high, not low.
Late return will comfort the offended,
Reconciled not without controversy,
Having used and wasted all my time.
Here, as it were, the motive of Elizabeth's illegitimacy arises. Although her father Henry VIII rejected this version before his death, appointing Elizabeth his third heir (in the event of the death of the childless Edward IV, and then Mary, as actually happened), the popes continued to consider the heretic Elizabeth illegitimate, who stole the English throne to the end. from the legitimate heiress (Mary Stuart, a distant relative of Henry VIII). The rest of the quatrain can be seen as an expression of the author's hope for civil peace at the end of Elizabeth's reign.
A contemporary and rival of Elizabeth I, the Scottish Queen Mary Stuart, in the predictions of Nostradamus, apparently, one quatrain is dedicated, but very effective - VIII, 23:
Letters will be found in the queen's chests
No signature, no author's name.
These promises will be hidden by stealth.
So no one will know who was the lover.
THIS immediately reminds of the “letters in a chest” case. Mary Stuart had a silver casket, something like a safe, with especially complex locks, which was presented by her first husband, the French king Francis P. And she presented it to her third husband, Count Boswell. Bothwell kept Mary's letters in it. After an unsuccessful battle for the spouses with their subjects at Carberry Hill, the casket ended up at the disposal of the Scottish Parliament. Letters from the casket were read at its meeting on December 15, 1567. It seemed to follow from them that Mary Stuart was Boswell's accomplice in the murder of her second husband, Henry Darnley. These letters, however, have come down to us only in translation into other languages. The originals disappeared at the end of the 16th century. Therefore, a number of researchers consider these letters forged. The reader who wishes to know this story in detail may refer to Stefan Zweig's Mary Stuart.
To the further history of England, i.e., to the reign of the son of Mary Stuart King James I Stuart, is quatrain X, 36:
The stump king when he talks about wars
The united island will be despised.
A few good years of bickering and robbery.
Due to tyranny, prices on the island will change.
Jacob Stuart was the sixth king of this name in Scotland, but he went down in history primarily as Jacob I, the founder of the Stuart dynasty in England, which replaced the Tudor dynasty, the last direct offspring of which was Elizabeth 1. Therefore, the nickname “king-stump” is appropriate for him , i.e., the ancestor, the founder of the dynasty, whose descendants are the ascending branches of the family tree. Jacob I was a coward, did not differ in any special talents and did not enjoy respect. His ineffectual rule gradually prepared the crisis that erupted under his son Charles I.
Now let's turn to those predictions that are customarily attributed to the son of James I, Charles I (1625 - 1649), who laid his head on the scaffold. Quatrain V, 93 reads:
Under the ground of the round moon ball,
When Mercury rules
The Scottish Isle will produce a luminary,
Which will bring the British to confusion.
The first two lines, apparently, should give the astrological date. And the second two really fit Charles I, who was born in 1600 at Dunfermline Castle (Scotland) and, with his incompetent rule, brought matters to a civil war of 1642-1649. Quatrain VIII, 37 says:
Fort near the Thames
Will fall when the king is locked inside her.
He will be seen near the bridge in a shirt
Face to death. Then they are locked up in a fortress.
This description most likely echoes the following events. On December 23, 1648, Charles, taken prisoner by the troops of Parliament, was placed in Windsor Castle, facing the Thames. On January 25, 1649, a special tribunal of Parliament sentenced Charles I to death for crimes against the nation. On January 30, 1649, Charles I, in a white shirt, ascended the esha fot and they cut off his head. He was then buried in the chapel at Windsor Castle. This funeral, according to many interpreters, is predicted in the last phrase - "then they will be locked up in a fortress."
In quatrain IX, 49, the soothsayer no longer leaves any doubts about the fate of the English king.
Ghent and Brussels will march on Antwerp.
The Senate of London will put their king to death.
Salt and wine will rise up against him.
Because of them, the kingdom is in turmoil.
The first line refers to some kind of military action in the Netherlands. Most commentators see here an allusion to the Spanish-Dutch war, which ended with the signing of a peace treaty on January 30, 1649, that is, exactly a year later. The combination of two events close in dates in different countries is generally quite typical of Nostradamus. As for wine and salt, since these two products were the main object of taxation at that time, they symbolized taxes. Obviously, Nostradamus saw the main reason for the Great English Revolution in excessive taxes. Everything else is pretty clear.
The prediction of the execution of the king, according to one of the commentators, is the most scandalous publication missed by the censorship of the 16th century. Indeed, for 1577 this situation is unprecedented.
Researchers also include quatrain III, 80 to the history of the Great English Revolution:
The worthy will be expelled from the English kingdom.
The adviser, out of anger, will be put to death.
His supporters will be so insignificant
That the bastard will be half accepted.
Here we are talking about Charles I. According to this version, the second line refers to the life of Lord Stafford, the chief adviser to Charles I, whom he gave to Parliament for reprisal. They cut off his head. The third line hints at the betrayal of the Scottish army, which in January 1647 sold Charles I to Parliament for 400,000 pounds. In the bastard, the interpreters of the quatrain saw Cromwell, who would be only half accepted by the English people: he would not become king, but would only bear the title of Protector of England.
Cromwell also includes another quatrain - VIII, 76:
More butcher than the king of England
Born in an insignificant place, will seize the empire by force.
Born without faith, without law, he will stain the earth with blood.
His time is so close that I sigh.
From the point of view of the Catholic and monarchist Nostradamus, such an assessment of Cromwell was quite natural. The last line of the quatrain is very curious. Apparently, Nostradamus did not consider the period of history of 100 years, which separated him from the era of Cromwell, too significant in comparison with the seven thousand years of human history, which he described in his Centuries.
With the turbulent history of England in the 17th century. researchers connect and quatrain VIII, 56:
A weak unit will take the land.
Residents of high places will make terrible screams.
The great horde of the outer corner will stir.
They will fall near Dikebro. Nidpis are open.
In this prediction, the key word is the mysterious toponym Dinebro. This locality is unknown. But already at the beginning of the XVIII century. one of the commentators of Nostradamus suggested that this is an anagram of the word Dunbar. In this case, the quatrain acquires some meaning. In 1650, King Charles II, the son of the executed Charles I, landed in Scotland and quickly raised a large army. However, at the Battle of Dunbar, she was utterly defeated by Cromwell's smaller army ("weak detachment"). Cromwell then got into the hands of the convoy of the royal army and many documents compromising various people.
Charles II, the first king of the restored English monarchy (1660 - 1685), also includes several very specific predictions. Prediction X, 40 is very curious:
Young heir to the British kingdom,
Which his dying father recommends.
Lonol will argue with him
And he will demand the kingdom from his son.
If we accept the version that the dying father is Charles I, then his young heir is Charles II. And the one who will argue with the father and son for the kingdom is Cromwell, hiding under the pseudonym Lonol. And the name "LONOLE" is an anagram of the colloquial pronunciation of Cromwell's name "Old Noll".
Quatrain X, 4:
At midnight the leader of the army
Save himself by suddenly disappearing.
Seven years later, his fame is spotless.
They will never say yes to his return.
This text is being interpreted by a typo in the fourth line, which, according to commentators, should read: "...they will not say anything but yes." In this case, the first two lines can be attributed to the Battle of Worcester (September 3, 1651). Charles II in this battle was utterly defeated by Cromwell and, disguised as a commoner, fled. Only after many adventures, in which he was constantly in danger of being captured, did he reach France. On September 3, 1658, exactly seven years after the defeat at Worcester, Cromwell died. For Charles II, a real opportunity opened up to challenge power in England, but he was invited to the English throne only in 1660.
By the time of the reign of Charles II, two quatrains, thematically related to each other, are also attributed.
11, 51:
The blood of the righteous will be the sin of London.
Will burn from lightning twenty, three, six.
The old lady will fall from her high place.
Many of the same sect will perish.
I, 53:3
Great Plague in the Seaside City
It will not stop until death is avenged.
The righteous blood of the doomed for a price without guilt.
And (resentment) of the Great Lady, who was falsely harmed.
The Old Lady (II, 51) and the Great Lady (II, 53) are, without a doubt, the same person. From the point of view of the orthodox Catholic Nostradamus, this lady, overthrown in England from her throne (“high place”), was undoubtedly identified with the Catholic Church. The blood of the righteous, which is mentioned in both quatrains, is also most likely the blood of Catholics who suffered from religious persecution in the 16th-17th centuries, but perhaps this concept includes all the victims of the English Revolution (Catholics in the civil war, as a rule, acted on the side of the monarchy).
The retribution for the blood of the righteous and the insults of the Old Lady, according to the soothsayer, will be the Great Plague (II, 53) and the Great Fire in London (II, 51). Indeed, in April 1665, an epidemic began in London, which was called the Great Plague, and in 1666 the so-called Great Fire broke out in London, destroying most of the city, including the famous Cathedral of St. Paul. (Some commentators believe that the term "Old Lady" refers to this cathedral.)
About the misadventures of James II, who succeeded his brother Charles II on the throne, tells quatrain IV, 89
Thirty in London will conspire
Against your king. Enterprise at sea.
He and his followers will fear death.
A blond king, a native of Frisia, will be elected.
Commentators believe that the events of the so-called "Glorious Revolution" of 1688 - 1689 are predicted here quite accurately, as a result of which the last king of the Stuart dynasty, James II (1685 - 1688), was overthrown. Attempts by Jacob P to put an end to the gains of the Great English Bourgeois Revolution of 1643-1649. and return to an absolutist form of government ended badly for him. The two leading parties of the state, the Whigs and the Tories, united against him. They decided to overthrow James II and invite in his place the husband of his daughter Mary, Prince William III of Orange, the Stadtholder of the Dutch Republic.
Frisia - part of Holland - could mean the whole country.) Wilhelm III, judging by the portraits, wore blond wigs. In June 1688, the leaders of the Tories and Whigs sent a letter to William III with an invitation to come to England with an army and take the local throne. Under this letter, according to one commentator, there were 29 signatures (nearly 30). In November 1688, William III landed in South-West England with an army of 12,000 (“an enterprise at sea”) and took control of all of England in 40 days without a fight. Abandoned by almost all of his adherents, James II fled to France. In January 1689, the English parliament elected William III, together with his wife Mary II, to the vacant throne.
Then come from outside countries
German prince on a golden throne.
Slavery and water will meet. The lady is serving.
Her time is no longer admired.
Quatrain II, 100 can be attributed to the history of England during the Second World War:
There is such a terrible noise on the islands,
But only one conspiracy will be heard well.
So great will be the insult of the thieves,
That everyone will unite in a big league.
Nostradamus also has one long-term prediction about England (X, 100):
England will build a great empire
Almighty (or all-sea) for over 300 years.
Great powers at sea and land.
The Lusitanians will not be pleased with this.
It can be argued that it has completely come true. The mention of the Lusitanians (Portuguese) is especially apt. We are talking about the struggle that the British and their allies, the Dutch, waged at the turn of the 16th - 17th centuries. against the Portuguese, who seized control of the seas washing Asia and Africa. But here it should be noted that the foundations of the sea power of England were laid already in the era of Nostradamus (although the first sea power in the world at that time, no doubt, was Portugal). Therefore, the last prediction in the book of Nostradamus (the 100th in the 10th "Century") gives the impression of a very successful and quite realistic forecast.
This quatrain adjoins undated, but also flattering for Britain quatrain X, 42:
Lay (or humane) realm of English origin
Will keep peace and union in his kingdom.
Keep the war half within its borders.
It will long force them to keep the peace.
However, this prediction can be applied to the United States, and to the entire Anglo-Saxon world as a whole.
Despite the great popularity of Nostradamus in America, the number of predictions that enthusiastic researchers have managed to link to this country is very small.
So quatrain I, 50 is interpreted as a brief description of US history.
From the water trinity will be born
The one (or - that) who will make Thursday his holiday.
His fame, power and might will increase
On land and sea, a storm against the Easterners.
The creature described in the first line, according to the grammatical meaning, can be both animate and inanimate. The main identification mark here is a holiday on Thursday. On Thursday, Americans celebrate Thanksgiving Day. Water triplicity is understood as three seas surrounding the United States (more precisely, two oceans and one bay). The Easterners are the Japanese in World War II.
After 1963, another was added to the meager set of predictions about America.
VI, 37:
The ancient work will be finished
Misfortune will fall on the great from the roof.
An innocent person will be blamed for this and killed.
The guilty one will hide in a grove during a light rain.
The character in the second line, according to many commentators, is John F. Kennedy. The character of the third line is Lee Oswald, accused without exact evidence of the assassination of the president. He was killed by Jack Ruby in front of all of America watching on TV.
The word "America" at the time of Nostradamus is still quite new and occurs only once in the "Centuries", in a quatrain, very difficult to understand, which will be discussed in more detail in the chapter "On the Three Antichrists".
Some scholars refer prophecy VIII, 74 to America:
In a new land, very far the king will enter,
while his subjects will greet him.
His treachery will have such an effect,
What will replace holidays and receptions for citizens.
New Earth, or New World, is indeed a fairly common designation for America. But in explaining the remaining three lines, the interpreters do not have a unanimous opinion and a more or less logical version. The new land is also mentioned in quatrain II, 89:
One day, two great leaders will become friends.
Their great power will increase.
The new earth will reach its summit.
Bloody will report the number.
According to E. Leoni, this prediction is best suited to the Anglo-German alliance in 1941. And the Bloody (ie, Hitler) will report on the statistics of the growth of the American military industry. M. Morin, on the other hand, believes that simply the days of "Bloody" will be numbered from now on.
History of Germany XVI - XIX centuries. in "Centuries" Nostradamus is not touched upon in too much detail. Of all historical events, only one can be identified without exaggeration - the annexation of Alsace and Lorraine from France in 1871. Quatrain X, 51 is dedicated to this:
Some of the lowest places in Lorraine
Will be united with the lower Germans.
Through people from the center (residence)
Picards, Normans, Maines.
And join the cantons.
Under the "lower", i.e., northern Germans, one can understand the kingdom of Prussia, which in 1871 united the scattered German states into the German Empire.
Of the predictions about Germany, commentators of the 20th century are of the greatest interest. evoked, of course, those quatrains that could be tied to Hitler, the Second World War, the "Third Reich". In three quatrains there is a character named Hyster. As a matter of fact, this name, most likely, comes from the ancient name of the Danube - Istres and means "inhabitant of the Danube" or "Danube". But since the Danube crosses Austria, Hitler's homeland, such a nickname is quite appropriate for him. The main thing, according to most commentators, is the consonance of the names "Hister" and "Hitler" and the fact that this character is clearly a big villain, striving for world domination. Quatrain II, 24 says:
Beasts, ferocious with hunger, will swim across the rivers.
Most of the ground will be against Hister.
The Great Ones order him to be dragged in an iron cage.
When the child of Germany will not abide by any laws.
Forcing numerous water lines really played a big role in the Second World War. The second line is suitable for describing the anti-Hitler coalition. The fourth line can be attributed to the arbitrariness perpetrated by the "Third Reich". As for the third line, what was predicted in it did not come true. As we mentioned above, in Nazi Germany they knew and studied the prophecies of Nostradamus, and Hitler took them quite seriously. At the end of the war, the Fuhrer was constantly worried about the idea that if he fell into the hands of the Allies, they would put him in a cage and take him to fairs to show the people.
In quatrain IV, 68, the word “Hister” is paired with the Rhine River, and the only intelligible explanation for this fact is that we are not talking about a person, but about the river - Istr (Danube).
In a place very close, not far from Venus (Venus),
The two greatest of Asia and Africa,
About whom they will say that they are from Reika and Istra.
Screams, tears in Malta and the Ligurian coast.
However, this does not stop the most ardent admirers of Nostradamus. Thus, Erica Cheatham writes:
“The word “Venus” is the key to this quatrain. It probably stands for Venice, thus linking Italy to Hitler. The two dictators met not far from this city at the Brenner Pass to conclude the Tripartite Pact with Asia, that is, with the Japanese. The last line refers to the blockade of Malta by the Italians, and the "screams and tears" on the Ligurian coast to the Allied bombardment of Genoa and the shelling of British warships based in Gibraltar.
In addition to the quatrains dedicated to Gister, researchers attribute several more predictions to Hitler and Nazism. So, in quatrain III, 76 it says:
Different sects will be born in Germany,
Which will come very close to happy paganism.
A captive heart and little profit (or result).
They will return to pay the true tithing.
The interest of Nazi ideologists in the restoration of ancient Germanic pagan cults is well known. The expression "captive heart" is quite suitable for designating a totalitarian society, and "small profit" or "small result" is just as well suited to the "profit" that the German people received from the "thousand-year Reich", which fell 12 years after its founding. In the fourth line, "true tithe" refers to the tribute paid by the Catholics to their church. In other words, Nostradamus wants to say that after the domination of pagan ideology in Germany, the Catholic Church will again triumph. This generally coincides with the important role played by the Christian Democratic parties in contemporary Germany. Sects in Germany are also mentioned in quatrain III, 67:
A new sect of philosophers
Despising death, gold, honors and riches,
Not limited to the German mountains.
Those who follow them (these philosophers) will have the support of the crowds.
To Hitler in the 20th century began to attribute quatrain V, 5:
Under the pretext of abolishing slavery
He himself usurps the people and the city.
He will make things worse by deceiving a young prostitute.
Go to the field, reading a fake poem.
The first line of this interpretation speaks of the Treaty of Versailles, against which Hitler campaigned in the 1920s. The "young prostitute" from the third line was somehow linked to the Weimar Republic in Germany (1918-1933). The "false poem" is identified with Hitler's book "Mein Kampf". Attracted to Hitler and quatrain I, 9:
Nine years the skinny will hold the kingdom in the world.
Then he will fall into a terrible bloodlust.
Because of him, a great nation will die without faith and law,
Killed by someone who is much more good-natured.
The reasoning of the interpreters here went in this way: “skinny” means a vegetarian, and a vegetarian means Hitler. True, only six years passed from Hitler's coming to power (1933) to the start of World War II (1939). But things can be corrected if we start counting the years from the elections of 1930, when the Nazi Party received a significant number of votes and became the second largest party in Germany. By "good-natured" who would kill him, this meant Roosevelt.
After Hitler came to power, Nazi propaganda tried to extract from the "Centuries" all the quatrains that could be interpreted in any flattering light for the Fuhrer. So, for example, in quatrain III, 35 it says:
Deep in Western Europe
From poor parents a boy will be born,
Who with his tongue will seduce a great army (or multitude).
His fame will increase even more in the realm of the East.
Indeed, in the 19th century This quatrain was attributed to Napoleon. Another quatrain III, 58, as it were, covers the entire biography of Hitler:
Near the Rhine in the Noric Mountains
A great one will be born from the people,
came too late
The one who will defend Sarmatia and Pannonia.
Nobody will know what happened to him.
Since the Roman province coincides with Austria, Hitler's birthplace, the first line cannot be objected to. The fourth line was popular after the war in Nazi circles, where the legend spread that Hitler was alive and hiding in South America. Sarmatia and Pannonia during the Renaissance called Poland and Hungary. Thus, from the Nazi point of view, military operations in Hungary in 1944-1945 could be drawn to the third line.
In quatrain VI, 49, Hitler, according to some commentators, appears as a priest of the god of war:
Grand Pontiff of the Party of Mars
Subdue the borders of the Danube.
The cross will be persecuted and twisted with iron.
Captives (prisoners), gold, diamonds, over a hundred thousand rubies.
With this interpretation, in the third line, which is very difficult to translate, they saw a swastika (a twisted cross), and the fourth line was attributed to prisoners of concentration camps and their property taken from them.
Separate events in the history of the "Third Reich" are associated with quatrain VIII, 6 additional:
Alas, how greedy foreign monarchs are. Watch out they don't come
to your country. There will be terrible dangers For many countries and even for Vienna.
This quatrain, which is very clear in meaning, may well come to the annexation of Austria by Germany in 1938.

In this quatrain, the term "Great Germany" is interesting, which is not typical for the 16th century. For the role of the "captain of Great Germany", who came to the king of kings
with a deceptive mission, Rudolf Hess is usually tipped. His arrival in England in May 1941 had just such a character. King George VI, then at the head of the British Empire, deserves the title of "King of Kings". And Pannonia (Hungary) was in 1941 an ally of Germany.
Erica Cheetham, mentioned above, gives this quatrain a different interpretation: “Hitler invaded Poland under the pretext of providing assistance ... Hitler was for some time the king of kings, the master of everything he oversaw. He also captured Hungary and started a war in which about 14 million soldiers were killed on both sides and, according to some estimates, as many civilians, if not more.
Consider another quatrain, V, 94, in our opinion, quite curious:

Here again there is an unusual for the XVI century. the term "Greater Germany". In addition, the “Holy Roman Empire of the German people,” as Germany was then called, included both Barbant, and Flanders, and Ghent, and Bruges (i.e., modern Belgium), and there was no need to annex them.
If we assume that the events of the Second World War are indicated here, then the second line can be considered a prediction of the occupation of Belgium and Northern France (Boulogne) in 1940. In the third line, then, therefore, we are talking about the Soviet-German pact in August 1939 . ("fraudulent truce"). The “Grand Duke of Armenia” presents a certain difficulty here, but it can also be somehow circumvented if we assume that Nostradamus mixed up Stalin’s nationality and made him an Armenian from a Georgian. Armenia is mentioned in "Centuries" five times, but Georgia - not once. Then the attack of the latter on Vienna becomes clear.
Prophecies connected in one way or another with Italy are second in volume only to predictions in the history of France and make up 18% of all Nostradamus's quatrains. They mention all the main regions, mountains, rivers and cities of Italy, indicated by ancient or modern names to the author. But not so many predictions come true. Quatrain V, 3 says:
In this quatrain, Nostradamus predicts that the Medici dynasty, the relatives of Catherine de Medici, who ruled in Florence, will be cut short and will be replaced, by right of kinship, by a French prince, obviously Catherine's son or grandson. This gallant prediction was obviously to please Catherine. But the most important thing is that it came true - and not even once, but twice, but only much later than Nostradamus and his patroness probably expected.
In 1737, the Medici dynasty, which ruled in Tuscany, the center of which was Florence, with short interruptions since 1434, finally stopped, and the French prince, Duke Francis of Lorraine, became the Grand Duke of Tuscany. His descendants ruled in Tuscany until 1801. In 1801, Napoleon I turned Tuscany into the kingdom of Etruria and handed it over to the Spanish Bourbons, that is, also French princes. After the fall of Napoleon I, the descendants of Francis of Lorraine returned to the throne of Tuscany, who ruled here until 1859.
The quatrain IV, 37 belongs to the era of the Napoleonic wars in Italy:
Gallus will rush through the mountains in leaps.
He will capture the great land of Insurbia.
His army will penetrate into the wilderness.
Genoa and Monaco will repel the red fleet.
In May 1800, Napoleon, with an army of 40,000, quickly overcame the St. Bernard Pass and broke into Italy. At this time, the Austrians were besieging Genoa, and the fleet of their British allies attacked Monaco on May 23, This attack was repelled with the help of the French. Meanwhile, Napoleon developed his success and on June 2 occupied Milan - the center of Lombardy, which in ancient times was called Insurbia. The British in the XVIII - XIX centuries. wore red uniforms, and therefore it is permissible to call their fleet "red" for this time. Quatrain II, 99 is curious:

UNDER the augur Nostradamus, apparently, means himself. Gauls, or Celts, called their descendants - the French. Under the Roman land meant either the whole of Italy or the Papal States, which really suffered from the Napoleonic wars. It was liquidated, and two popes - Pius VI and Pius VII - were successively arrested by Napoleon and kept in prison - the first until his death in 1799, the second - until the fall of Napoleon in 1814. But the French people will suffer retribution for this sacrilege when their army in 1812 gets too far into the country of the North Wind, that is, into Russia.
Some commentators who lived in the 19th century attribute a number of quatrains to a key event in the history of Italy - its unification in the middle of the 19th century.
II, 16:

According to THIS version, the first line mentions the kingdom of the two Sicilies, which until 1859 was ruled by one of the branches of the Bourbon family. And the “new tyrants” are Garibaldi and other revolutionaries who overthrew all the Bourbons, and for this crime, they say, Nostradamus calls “heavenly fire” on their heads. In the third line, London means England, Ghent and Brussels - Belgium. With the moral support of these two states, the kingdom of Savoy (designated by the city of Susa) will unite Italy in 1860-1870. Then, of course, this event will be celebrated with festivities.
Since the middle of the XX century. This quatrain began to be attributed to the events of the Second World War. Under the "new tyrants" now it was necessary to understand the Nazis, "heavenly fire" should be interpreted as bombardment from the air, England and its ally Belgium - as military opponents of the "new tyrants". And the final triumph is Victory Day in May 1945.
In the XX century. a number of quatrains began to be tied to Mussolini and fascist rule in Italy.
III, 63:
Roman power will be humiliated,

Exiles will be sent to the islands

In quatrain III, 63, the researchers saw a hint that fascist Italy would trail behind Nazi Germany. I, 59 and III, 48 speak of terror. Quatrains can be applied to both Italy and Germany, but the Italian connection is more plausible, because under Mussolini political prisoners were exiled to the islands (I, 59), where in 1943 they were released by the Allies.
In the middle of the XVI century. Geneva, the capital of Switzerland, was the center of extreme Protestantism in Europe under the leadership of fellow countryman Nostradamus John Calvin (1509-1564). Both Calvin himself and his students had a negative attitude towards astrology. It was from the circle of people close to Calvin that the first pamphlets directed against the famous astrologer came out. It is not clear whether Nostradamus met Calvin prior to Calvin's emigration from France in 1535, but they probably met during Nostradamus' travels abroad in 1538-1544.
Nostradamus's hatred for Calvin, perhaps, goes beyond what any orthodox, but generally indifferent to religious subtleties, Catholic can feel. It is clearly personal. Therefore, it is not surprising that Nostradamus devoted a fair amount of predictions to Switzerland and Geneva, in particular.
Many of the quatrains reflect the hope of Nostradamus that the Genevans will come to their senses and put an end to Calvin. So, in quatrain I, 47 it says:

They will drag on for days, then for weeks,

And in quatrain I, 61 Nostradamus continues this thought:

As you know, Calvin was invited to Geneva to instruct its citizens in the faith in 1536. But the rules that he instituted there, the strict police supervision of any step of citizens, not only in public, but also in private life, soon caused such an outburst of indignation that in the spring of 1538 he was asked to leave.
However, Calvin's supporters in the autumn of 1541 obtained a new invitation to him in Geneva, after which, until his death in 1546, he remained the sovereign dictator of this city-state. Many of his opponents had to go into exile, as mentioned in the third line. But Nostradamus did not lose hope that the patience of the Genevans would finally run out, they would break the agreement with Calvin, concluded in 1541, and again expel him from the city.
Thus, Calvin will not be expelled. He will be buried in Geneva, but mistakenly buried alive. Soon after this, the Genevans will come to their senses, renounce Calvinism, condemn the founder of the heresy and dig up his coffin, apparently in order to burn him posthumously (such things happened in the Middle Ages and later). But then it turns out that the villain has already been punished. Waking up in a coffin, he lived for a long time, eating with his own hands.
At the same time, Nostradamus warned the people of Geneva that if they hesitated in reprisal against Calvin, then the whole city would answer for his crimes.
IX, 44:
Run, run from Geneva, one and all.
Saturn will turn from gold to iron.
Raipoz will exterminate all who oppose him.
Before that comes, there will be signs in the sky.
The prediction warns the Genevans, firstly, that the new Golden Age promised by Calvin (the age of Saturn) will turn out to be not Golden at all, but Iron. And, secondly, that a certain mysterious Raipoz will do away with little Geneva in a treacherously treacherous way. Raipoz is an anagram of the name Zopir. Zopyrus is a faithful servant of Darius. He, according to the story of Herodotus, helped this Persian king to seize impregnable Babylon. He cut off his nose and ears and came to Babylon as a defector. Entering into the confidence of the Babylonians, he found a way to undermine their defenses and surrender the city to the Persians. Thus, the name Zopyr became a household name during the time of Nostradamus and meant betrayal and treachery. In the XVI century. Spain played one of the leading roles in European political life. Therefore, in terms of the frequency of mentions in the "Prophecies" of Nostradamus, she ranks third. "Dict." in the third line is, of course, a dictator. He is opposed to a good leader, who will be missed by the peoples of Italy and Spain.
Some interpreters of Nostradamus' predictions believe that quatrain VI, 64 is suitable for the history of the civil war in Spain:

The history of fascism and the Spanish Civil War also includes quatrains IX, 15 and IX, 16.
IX, 15:
Near Perpignan red

There is the following interpretation of this quatrain. At the beginning of 1939, the retreating troops of the Spanish Republic and the refugees from Franco crossed the French border just in the Perpignan region. There they were detained by the French authorities and placed in special camps. This version is confirmed by the following quatrain (IX, 16), where one can read the names of General Francisco Franco (1892 - 1975) and General Miguel Primo de Rivera (1870 - 1930) - two Spanish fascist dictators.
From the fortress of Franco (or - from Castelfranco) the assembly will come out.
A disgruntled messenger will arrange a split.
The people of Ribera (or Riviera) will fight,
And they will forbid entry into the great bay.
Portugal is mentioned in the "Prophecies" in only six quatrains. Only one of them refers directly to the history of this country, in the rest it is mentioned in connection with stories about other countries.
In a year when Mercury, Mars, Venus are in clear motion.
The line of the great monarch will not be interrupted.
Chosen by the Portuguese people near Cadiz,
He will reign to a ripe old age.
The first line here gives the astrological date. Everything else is quite clear. A situation close to that described actually took place in Portugal in the 16th century. In 1578, the Portuguese king Sebastian I went on a crusade against the Moors. This trip ended in disaster. In the battle of Alcazar (in Morocco), the Portuguese army was utterly defeated, the king himself went missing. Having ascended the throne after Sebastian I, his uncle, the aged Cardinal Henry, died two years later.
After that, there were no direct heirs to the Portuguese throne. A dynastic dispute ensued between distant relatives (the dukes of Parma, the dukes of Bragana, etc.). The winner of it was the Spanish king Philip II. His rights were even more precarious than those of other claimants, but he had a large army. In 1580, Philip sent troops to Portugal, led by the Duke of Alba. Having occupied the country, Alba declared Philip II the legitimate monarch of Portugal. All elections came down to this. The independence of Portugal was restored only 60 years later, in 1640.
"East" and "North" - that's how Russia was called in the time of Nostradamus.
And here is another prediction that commentators of the 20th century. attributed to A. V. Suvorov.
II, 29:
The Eastern (man) will leave his place,

We have already considered quatrains that can be associated with the Patriotic War of 1812 above, in the section devoted to Napoleon I. One of them (IV, 82) mentioned Slavonia (or “Slavic land”), as the predictor indicated the name of Russia. This toponym is found in Nostradamus and in quatrain I, 14 and confirms the correctness of this assumption:
The Slavic people have hymns and complaints instead of songs.

If we assume that the princes and lords in the second line are not the punishing, but the suffering side (the text allows both interpretations), then, from the point of view of a convinced monarchist, we will get a picture of the October Revolution and the Red Terror. In the last two lines, in this case, the author gives an energetic assessment of the theory of scientific communism.
But such an interpretation became possible only in the 20th century. And in the XVII century. Etienne Jaubert, adhering to a more natural interpretation of the second line (princes will not be imprisoned, but they themselves will imprison someone), explained quatrain X, 62 by the events of the 16th century. The Huguenots, with their absurd doctrine of the reformation of the church, will suffer a well-deserved punishment from the authorities. In the 19th century A. Lepeletier referred the same quatrain to the events of the Great French Revolution. Villains imprisoned, he no longer has Huguenots, but Jacobins.
Some dubious doctrine is spoken of in quatrain VI, 72, which some commentators attribute to the queen and Rasputin:
Through the feigned fury of divine revelation,
The wife of the great will be raped.
The judges wish to condemn such a doctrine.

The 1917 revolution and its consequences include a whole group of Nostradamus predictions, which describe all sorts of social upheavals. One of these predictions (I, 3) reads as follows:
When the whirlwind turns over the stretcher
And faces will be hidden by cloaks,
The Republic will be pestered by new people.
Reds and whites will be judged oppositely.
There are several more quatrains in which there is the term "red" ("reds"). In this group, quatrain VIII, 19 is most curious:
To support the shocked great robe (or mantle or cloak),
To cleanse this, the Reds are marching.
The family will be almost destroyed by death.
The Red-Reds will exterminate the Reds.
After the events of 1937, this quatrain began to be attributed to the history of Russia, to the Stalinist repressions (“the super-reds” simply exterminated the “reds”).
VIII, 80:
The blood of innocent widows and maidens
So much evil has been done by Great Red.
The holy images are immersed in burning wax.
Everyone is terrified, no one will move.
In this quatrain, Nostradamus paints a terrible picture of terror, in particular, the persecution of the church. The role of the "Great Red" is best suited, of course, to I. V. Stalin.
Finally, consider the only prediction of Nostradamus, where there is a Russian toponym.
III, 95:
(People) will see More's Law fall into decay

Borisfen is the ancient name of the Dnieper. Strictly speaking, it is difficult to say which state Nostradamus had in mind, since in the 16th century. The Dnieper flowed through the territory of the Commonwealth. Law Nostradamus usually calls religion, but here it can be interpreted in a broader sense, as a doctrine. For the time of Nostradamus, who did not know the word "communism", "the teachings of More" was a good synonym for it.
Sovietologists, inclined to believe the prophecies of Nostradamus, have long chosen this quatrain as a prediction of the inevitable fall of communism and its replacement by a more attractive (market) system.
Interpreters of the creative heritage of Michel Nostradamus are now looking for indications of 2012 in his works, because they are sure that a real predictor would not have left such a date without attention. These expectations are not without meaning, because, judging by the numerous coincidences of the interpretations of Nostradamus's quatrains with historical events, the physician of the 16th century managed to catch certain patterns in the development of civilization.
Michel de Notredam was born on December 14, 1503 in the small town of Saint-Remy in Provence in the family of the notary Jomes de Notredam, shortly before that he was forced to prefer Catholicism to the Jewish faith (according to the decree of Louis XII that determined the fate of the French Jews). The family of the future master Nostradamus was very wealthy: according to the "Chronicle of Provence" by Cesar de Notredam (one of the sons of Nostradamus), Michel's great-grandfathers were doctors at the courts of the lords of Provence - Count Rene the Good and the Duke of Calabria. Relatives of Nostradamus continued to secretly observe the rites of Judaism. Thus, two faiths formed the basis of Michel's worldview: first of all, the Jewish one, which was certainly accompanied by an atmosphere of dangerous secrecy, and, of course, officially introduced Catholicism.
In 1521, Michel de Notre Dame received a master of arts degree from Avignon. The next eight years of the life of the young master fell out of the attention of biographers - according to Nostradamus himself, they passed in wanderings and research, the purpose of which was to accumulate medical and pharmaceutical knowledge. In 1529, he entered the medical faculty of the University of Montpellier and, despite several conflicts with teachers, left with a doctorate and the right to write a surname in the Latin manner: Nostradamus. During the new stage of wanderings that followed, Nostradamus became close friends with the famous scientist, poet and humanist Jules Cesar Scaliger, and then settled in the town of Agen. However, in 1537, a plague came to this city, from which the wife and children of Nostradamus died. A year later, the doctor ended up in the dungeons of the Holy Inquisition on charges of blasphemy - according to an anonymous denunciation, he spoke unflatteringly about one of the sculptures of the Virgin. However, the accusation was found to be false. Once free, Nostradamus soon left Agen - apparently, this happened after a quarrel with Cesar Scaliger, from whom the doctor later received a number of caustic epigrams - including accusations of hidden Judaism.
Michel de Notre Dame, who won fame as the greatest seer of all times and peoples
For the next few years, Michel de Notredamm practiced medicine in Italy and Germany. In 1546, he again ended up in France, where he took an active part in the fight against the plague in the city of Aix in Provence - so active that the city's parliament awarded the doctor a lifetime pension. A year later, Nostradamus remarried (the second marriage subsequently brought him 6 children).
Soon Nostradamus managed to break through the veil of church censorship and start issuing an annual astrological almanac. The first issue was published in 1555 in Lyon. At the same time, the first edition of The Prophecies of Master Michel Nostradamus was published, which consisted of 353 predictions made in the form of quatrains (quatrains) and an epistolary preface in the spirit of the time - Letters to the Son Cesar. But, despite the fact that the Catholic Church had previously given the go-ahead for the publication of the works of the soothsayer, Nostradamus still had to justify his quatrains again and again in the face of "God's representatives on Earth." Then secular authorities joined the church, which made the life of the astrologer unbearable - he moved from place to place, until in 1558, in the preface to the last part of the Centuries (collections of 100 quatrains), he turned to King Henry II. The soothsayer called the monarch the ruler of the world and in an allegorical form revealed to him the future of mankind for many centuries to come. A year later, Henry II died at the tournament, perhaps without having time to get acquainted with the extensive message of Nostradamus. It is assumed that the predictor wrote about the future death of the king in the first Centuria (its 35th quatrain), and it is possible that it was thanks to this prediction that turned out to be correct that Nostradamus received an audience with Catherine de Medici.
In 1561, the astrologer was imprisoned in his own house in Provence, in the city of Salon - the authorities demanded from him a detailed description of the life and future accomplishments of the young king Charles IX. It is known that Nostradamus composed a response letter in such a way that, on the one hand, he yielded to the insistent wishes of those in power, on the other hand, he did not say anything specific. Unfortunately, the text of the letter has not survived.
In 1564, Michel Nostradamus received the post of court physician and so, being at the peak of his career, died of complications of gout on July 2, 1566. A slab was installed over his grave in the Salon with the inscription: “Here lie the bones of the famous Michel Nostradamus, the only one of all mortals who was worthy to capture with his almost divine pen, thanks to the influence of the stars, the future events of the whole world.”
Facts
The first complete edition of The Prophecies of Master Michel Nostradamus appeared in 1568 - 2 years after the death of the soothsayer. It contained all ten "Centuries", which included 942 quatrains - it is known that the seventh "Centuria" remained incomplete. The publication also includes a prose address to Henry II, consisting of prophecies, and a “Letter to his son Cesar”, which explains the occult views of Nostradamus. It was the quatrains that brought Michel de Notre Dame the posthumous fame of the greatest seer in the world, except for biblical characters.
Nostradamus owes his lifetime popularity to his annual astrological almanacs, which were regularly published from 1555 to 1567. Most of this almanac was occupied by predictions in prose. In addition, one quatrain was devoted to the next year as a whole and to each of its months separately.

The prophetic verses of Nostradamus set out the history of the future in an allegorical form, so they can have a lot of different interpretations. This is both their disadvantage and advantage, since it is not known what the proportion of coincidences would be if the predictor spoke about specific dates and events. It often turns out that one or another quatrain is really suitable for describing events that have already happened, but these quatrains can hardly be used for confident forecasts for the future.
This does not prevent adherents of Nostradamus from attributing to their idol descriptions of all significant events in human history for millennia to come. For example, about the American catastrophe on September 11, 2001, according to interpreters, the 32nd quatrain of the fifth Centuria warns:

Despite the fact that this prediction is one of those that do not have a chronological reference, thousands of people around the world are sure that Nostradamus still managed to foresee the destruction of the World Trade Center skyscrapers as a result of the terrorist attack. In alchemy, the Sun and Moon symbolize gold and silver, and the "seventh stone" ("seventh metal") is mercury, which in this context means destruction. Thus, the quatrain really speaks of a catastrophe that came to the center of wealth from heaven - according to the interpreters, this is enough to give specific meaning to the general prophecy.
However, there are many in the legacy of Nostradamus and come true predictions with dates embedded in them. The following are just a few examples of such prophecies.

The principle of operation of this simple device at that time became well known, which led to a wave of enthusiasm for officially banned astronomy. By the same time, the discoveries of Galileo Galilei and many astronomers who disappeared into obscurity in the cellars of the Holy Inquisition and the "Towers of Fools" (a prison and a madhouse at the same time) belong. The traditional poetic meaning of Aquilon is "the country of the north wind". In 1700, the Northern War of Russia and the allies against Sweden began, as a result of which the "corner of Aquilon" - the Baltic states - went to Russia. Speaking of "people led by the lunar force", the soothsayer, according to interpreters, means that the Northern War (1700-1721) coincides in time with the peak of the astrological era of the Moon - therefore, the reason for the wars lies in its destructive influence.
25th quatrain of the same "Centuria":
Lost found, hidden for a long time,
