    Kyle Katarn

In the distant times of ascension to the heights of power of Emperor Palpatine-Sidious, on the autumn-colored moon Sulon, the hero of our story was born in the family of Morgan and Patricia Katarn. However, he himself always winces at the word "hero" and prefers to be called simply by his name - Kyle.

A holotape of Morgan saying goodbye to his son before he was sent to the Imperial Academy.

So, Kyle grew up in the wilderness, so his only friend, apart from loving parents, was the droid Wee-Gee assembled by his father, or, as the boy himself called him, Vig. True, he had to communicate with the robot in the droid language - a set of squeaking and crackling signals - but for the sake of live communication with his “peer”, the boy put up with this. Morgan Katarn was a loving, but stern and laconic father, and her mother Patricia was always distinguished by a meek and quiet disposition, and it is not surprising that since childhood, Kyle has acquired the habit of talking to himself often and for a long time. In these internal dialogues - still childish and naive - he spent hours and even days, floating in the current of his thoughts and fantasies. Dreaming, rejoicing, sad... Pondering, reasoning...

The end of the old life came in one day - at least that's how it seemed to Kyle then. Mother was shot dead by a malfunctioning Imperial patrol droid. To drown out the bitterness of loss, Kyle, at the insistence of his father, went to the cadet academy in order to become an officer in the assault infantry, the elite of the imperial army. His father's motives will become known to him only many years later...

Entering the academy, as well as studying in it, was incredibly easy for the young man. Analytical mindset, healthy cynicism, lack of arrogance and arrogance characteristic of many youths - all this immediately won the cadet Katarn the respect of instructors and teachers. The life lessons that his father gave him were not in vain - respect for colleagues, coupled with considerable ingenuity and initiative, brought Kyle the unspoken title of one of the most promising students of the academy (and a hanging tongue gave him a reputation as a joker and shirt-guy). It seemed that Katarn's future career as an officer was assured. Before the official initiation into officers of the assault troops, the last test remained - baptism of fire.

But during the raid on the rebel base, Katarn showed another side of his nature. He firmly forbade his stormtroopers to shoot the rebels who laid down their arms. And since the special operation was in full swing and it was absolutely impossible to escort the rebels, the captives had to be released. If some homegrown psychologist from among the inexperienced and self-confident Jedi many years later told Kyle that this was an act of kindness, Katarn would simply laugh and respond with a barb. No, there was no spineless compassion in Kyle, no naive good nature. There was something that can be called nobility and humanity. There was a link between him, a calculating Imperial cadet, and that boy from Sulon. There was a fear of forgetting my past, of losing the stingy warmth of my childhood, staining my hands with blood.

Cadet Katarn shortly before her never-ending graduation from the Imperial Academy.

Mercy, superfluous for a military officer, got away with the cadet. Firstly, Katarn was in good standing with his superiors, and secondly, during the same operation, he demonstrated considerable competence, easily leading the detachment out of the trap without the slightest loss. And the imperial instructors knew how to deal with manifestations of unnecessary humanity among the cadets. Katarn was shown a recording of the rebel attack on Sulon and, after expressing condolences over the death of his father, left Kyle alone with grief and anger. The loss of the last person dear to him changed a lot in Katarn's soul. Devastated, Kyle raged at himself for releasing those captured rebels, mentally shooting his father's killers time after time...

The smuggling duo are Kyle and his lifelong love, Jen Ors.

And only a few weeks remained before the dedication to the officers. The last exit "in civilian life" was to be a cruise on a comfortable liner "Star of the Empire". It was then that the most fateful meeting in the life of Kyle Katarn took place. In one of the passengers, Kyle recognized the girl he captured and released in that ill-fated raid on the rebel base. Her name was Jan Ors, she was a smuggler and agent for the Rebel Alliance. If someone else were in Jen's place, Katarn would not miss the opportunity to break his head. But he felt something close to Ors, a vague feeling that had been born in him back in the rebel base when he exchanged glances with her.

Yes, in the dry language of military intelligence, Kyle allowed himself to be re-recruited. Jen showed records and documents showing that the attack on Sulon was an imperial provocation to discredit the rebels. Katarn was hardly one of those people who easily believed the words of scouts, but he had personal motives for leaving the service of the Empire - the fear of losing himself. This fear, coupled with sympathy for Jen, led him to the court of Lady Mon Mothma. And there, there were plans for the defector stormtrooper.

    someone else's work

A new type of attack aircraft can easily take out any rebel base? Yes, it was necessary to continue working for the Empire ....

    Kyle Katarn

It is difficult to describe in words how confused and broken Kyle was, accustomed to carefully analyzing his every step, so as not to do something for which his conscience would then gnaw. And his sudden defection was just such a step - thoughtless, aimless, not free. Just think, this Jen girl decided everything for him, easily taking him away with her! Kyle was furious with himself like never before. However, as is usually the case with such people, Katarn soon turned his dissatisfaction with himself to an external enemy - it became the Empire. After persuading himself to believe Jen Ors' words, he blamed his father's death on the Imperials. As it turned out later, not entirely fair.

A defector officer in the service of the rebels. Codename - Lifesaver.

In the meantime... While he was a trump card in the hands of the Alliance, brilliantly performing the most difficult sabotage missions. Not everyone knows that the Rebels owe it to Katarn that they stole the plans for the first Death Star. Anger at himself for such a weak-willed following of other people's instructions only grew and again transformed into hatred for the Empire.

The opportunity to vent anger presented itself very soon. Rebel intelligence reported on the development of a project of the so-called "dark foot soldiers", physically modernized fighters, head and shoulders superior even to the glorified imperial stormtroopers. The destruction of this development became Katarn's "lightning rod" for the coming months. In truth, Mon Mothma was expecting Kyle "under Jen's supervision" to slightly sabotage science work and, with a lot of luck, even get some useful information. But Katarn, in turn, showed what a former stormtrooper officer can do in a bad mood. Four stages of the project, developed by different scientific groups under reliable cover, were destroyed one single person. The rebels were shocked by such imperial hardening. Congratulations were heard all around, Katarn suddenly became a hero of the Alliance. The image of a charming daredevil and shirt-boy who meets any danger with caustic witticisms and blaster shots quickly became popular. Few people guessed that it was only a mask.

Kyle had a lot to think about. Memories of the destruction of the "dark footman" project haunted him. He recalled the last months of his life - operation after operation, battle after battle. He remembered his thoughts, but not his feelings. He acted like an ideal military machine: clearly, quickly, confidently. Without mistakes, without idle reflections - that's how they taught him at the academy. He recalled himself yesterday and did not see a single drop of life in this "ideal soldier". Is there anything in common between him and that boy from Sulon?

For a long time Kyle remained in the same role of the "ideal soldier", but the boiling point was already close.

    old wounds...

I am not a Jedi. I'm just a guy with a lightsaber and a couple of questions.

    Kyle Katarn

Shortly after the Battle of Endor, things changed dramatically. Kyle was visited by the spirit of the Jedi Ku Ran, a close friend of Katarn Sr. Visited for a reason - Ku Ran told Kyle about the cause of death of his father, Morgan.

Blind Jerec at the time of the murder of Morgan Katarn.

Even in his youth, he discovered the so-called Valley of the Jedi on the planet Ruusan. Once in this valley, the decisive battle of the New Sith Wars took place, ending in a cataclysm that destroyed almost all the adherents of the Force on the planet. And according to rumors, the Valley has since become a prison for thousands of Jedi and Sith spirits, and at the same time perhaps the most powerful focus of the Force in the galaxy. Morgan refused to become a Jedi, tired of endless adventures and preferring the quiet life of a farmer on Sulon. The only person he told his secret to was Ku Ran.

But rumors about the existence of the Valley of the Jedi still surfaced and were picked up by the ambitious Imperial interrogator Jerec. It was he who organized the attack on Sulon, hoping to find a person who knows the location of the notorious valley. And now, when the map of the Valley, despite the efforts of Morgan, fell into the hands of Jerec, and the galaxy has not yet recovered from the civil war, the former interrogator must be stopped.

Kyle listened to the words of the ghost, as if in a fog. Saving the galaxy, wiping out the Sith menace—these things were more suited to propaganda posters, which Katarn had never read. But... the reminder of his father's death seemed to shake off sleep from Kyle's soul. It turns out that all his "rebel games" are just a stupid comedy and the Empire is no more guilty of his father's death than the Alliance. And the true killer, meanwhile, walks free and enjoys life.

Let's say a few words about this killer himself. Jerec, a maraluk race (almost identical to humans, but lacking eyes), was once a Jedi archaeologist. The hunt for the Jedi that accompanied Palpatine's accession to the Empire began at the moment when Jerec was on another expedition, so he was completely unprepared for interrogation. Fear for their future fate was enough to recruit the former Jedi as an interrogator. But it would be a mistake to consider Jerec an agent of the Empire. He himself expressed it this way: "In entering the service of the Empire, I do not expect to serve it forever."

Don't be surprised by the mesmerized look - this is the first time Kyle is holding a lightsaber in his hands. By the way, it once belonged to Ku Ran.

So, going home was both poison and medicine for Kyle. Childhood memories contrasted strangely with the view of the ruins of his native farm. And only the old Vig, who miraculously survived that tragic day, was able to console Kyle and ... give him a weapon of revenge - Ku Ran's lightsaber.

Gradually unlocking his Force-sensitivity potential, Katarn pursued Jerec and his students all the way to Ruusan. Each time, falling behind the former interrogator by a step, Katarn again and again challenged the students of the dark Jedi. The first was the aristocratic and charming Yun, whose life Kyle spared, the next were the "twins" - Cammoreans Gork and Peak (giant and dwarf). Already on the surface of the planet, Kyle, in a fit of dark fury, dealt with the mighty Mo... Soon the names and identities of the victims began to be forgotten.

With each victory, the dark side more and more manifested itself. Merciful at the beginning of the journey, at the end Katarn could barely keep his dark side in chains. Kyle felt like he was fighting himself as he killed the Dark Jedi, a strange and devastating feeling. The death of enemies often seemed to him more tragic than the death of former rebel comrades-in-arms:

Jerec's students, each of whom Kyle will encounter on his journey to the Valley of the Jedi. Some will even regret it later.

Kyle, coming to his senses, lay at the feet of the beautiful Sarissa, and she was going to finish off the "self-taught Jedi." Katarn was saved by Yun, who himself owed him his life. He repulsed the blow of his mistress, and she reflexively pierced the nobleman. The eternal thin smile on his face was replaced by surprise and fear of death. "He's a Jedi and he deserves a fight," Yun said before dropping dead. Fright from the creation was soon replaced by Sarissa's hysterical rage at the Jedi, who had already picked up the sword of the dead Sith, preparing for a deadly duel ...

Traveling through the Valley of the Jedi was like a nightmare - mysterious and familiar. The demented Twi'lek Bok, who pretended to be one of the statues before attacking, was slain by Katarn with Jen's help. The road to revenge was free

The duel with Jerec added fuel to the fire. The victory did not bring joy, and the dark side, growing and filling the entire space of the soul, was already beginning to whisper its illegible counting rhymes. Kyle soon became friends with Palpatine's former close associate and Luke Skywalker's future wife, Mara Jade. Both were aspiring Jedi with a dark side awakening in them, and it was not surprising that Mara soon offered Kyle what she called "mutual mentoring." This practice, common in the early years of the New Republic, consisted of two Jedi becoming both apprentices and mentors to each other. But the anxiety only grew. Once in the Sith ruins during one of the missions, Kyle almost fell into obsession with the dark side, and only the efforts of Mara saved him. Desperate, Kyle trusted Luke Skywalker's insistent suggestions and became his apprentice. But the cup of patience was filled with an uprising in the Jedi Academy of two Padawans who turned to the dark side.

If there had been a less persistent and strong-willed person in Kyle's place, darkness would have taken over long ago. But even Katarn, in the end, could not stand the flight from himself. Fear of getting out of his own control, staining his hands in the blood of innocents, took over - Kyle returned the lightsaber to Skywalker and severed his connection with the Force.

    ...and new hopes

Why can't you Jedi make things simpler?

    Kyle Katarn

The ensuing catharsis was quickly replaced by a dirty routine. Trying to escape from himself and forget the shocks he lived through, Kyle again delved into the work that he knew how to do best and which he was so afraid of. He became a free mercenary, the very "ideal soldier" that he was during the uprising.

A tragic duel with Sarissa, one of Jerec's students.

There are people who radiate philanthropy and kindness, and there are those whose spiritual warmth resembles a lonely candle in the night. Kyle kept his light zealously and steadfastly, but now it seemed to him that everything was already over. His conscience no longer hurt because of the murders - he had seen and committed too many of them. Jen Ors, who again became his comrade and companion, saw that the daredevil was acting more imprudently and was literally climbing to certain death. The jokes, served under the familiar mask of ingenuous irony, became more and more cynical. And she no longer hoped to see him the same.

Another turning point in Katarn's life was a mission to the planet Kizhik. An unknown force tried to seize the mines for the extraction of crystals sensitive to the Force, and the goal of the task seemed, if not extremely simple, then not at all super complicated. But the special operation turned out to be the tragic death of Jen, and the duel with the enemy leader, the dark Jedi and Skywalker's former student Desann ended in defeat for Kyle. However, Desann showed mercy, so uncharacteristic of the Dark Jedi, leaving the wounded Katarn to suffer from impotent rage for the death of Jen, who became almost a sister to him.

The habitual thirst for revenge again overwhelmed Kyle with his head, tearing him out of everyday life. Overcome with pride, Kyle headed to the Jedi Academy to reclaim his connection to the Force. Still fearful that Katarn would "fall apart", Luke nevertheless agreed to have him reinitiated as a Jedi in the fabled Vale on Ruusan. And while Luke argued (who would have doubted) about saving the New Republic from a new wave of Sith, Kyle confidently followed his motives.

After tracking down Desann's closest apprentice, Tavion Axmis, Kyle unleashed his malice. When Katarn hung Tavion over the abyss with the Force and was about to do his justice, Axmis admitted that Jen's death was only staged so that Kyle, who wanted revenge, would lead Desann's agents to the Valley of the Jedi. Perhaps, in a different situation, the sensible Katarn would not have believed a single word of Tavion, but feelings for his girlfriend suddenly flared up in him with renewed vigor. Kyle discovered that Jen Ors was much more dear to him than he had previously thought. She was the only person he cared about, and now he wanted to believe that she was alive. Having given Tavion life, the Jedi continued his search. Yes, Desann had obviously made a big mistake in keeping Ors as a hostage. Kyle's quick death from the blade is a clear confirmation of this.

Love for the rescued Jen was the first thaw in the soul of one of the loneliest heroes of the Republic. For the first time in years, Kyle didn't feel the burden or fear of failure in his heart.

    Mentor Katarn

First of all, call me Kyle - the titles give me goosebumps. Second, you don't "serve" me. I teach you and you learn. Something like this.

    Kyle Katarn

Reconciled with himself, Kyle for the first time in many years did not feel the desire to seek new victories and difficult tasks. After becoming a teacher at the Jedi Academy, he no longer engaged in the feverish search for enemies, which he had become so used to during his years of service in the armies of the Empire and the Republic. You can tell a lot about the struggle with the followers of Ragnos (whose leader was the very Tavion whom he once gave life), which resulted in a confrontation between two students of Katarn - Jacen Kor and Rosh Penin. But in this story, Kyle played a far from the main role, and the time for a life search has passed - for once, Katarn performed his duty without conflicting with his conscience. The death of the naive Roche, who went over to the side of Tavion and had time to regret it, was a prick to the soul - but no more.

Desann and Jerec are the two worst and most worthy enemies of the Jedi exile.

Soon the war with the Yuuzhan Vong that fell upon the galaxy became for many of its inhabitants Doomsday, the last threshold. Fear of an imminent catastrophe forced Katarn to ask for the hand of his beloved Jen. She, however, was wiser. Realizing that Kyle was not created for family life, she chose to refuse, thereby keeping love. Apparently, Jen intuitively felt that it was too early to wait for the end. And I guessed.

Again, let's leave aside Kyle's many exploits in this war. Moreover, he doesn’t like enumeration of merits ...

The times following the war with the Yuuzhan Vong became mourning for the Galactic Alliance. The devastation and growing separatist movement led to Jacen Solo being elected interim dictator of the Alliance. And everything would be fine, but Jacen's methods clearly pulled him into the abyss of the dark side. Kyle Katarn was one of the few who was not blind to the rise of Solo Jr. (and even Jacen's uncle Luke Skywalker overlooked the transformation of the Alliance into a dictatorship). Always distinguished among the Jedi by a fair amount of skepticism and a bad temper, Katarn literally shocked the council with his accusations: Jacen, who was treated with condescension by the Jedi ("young green"), he accused of striving for tyranny, and Leia Organa-Solo, who acted against interests of the state, called for the use of ostracism. In truth, voices of dissatisfaction were heard from other lips, but the authority of Katarn gave considerable weight to the protests. However, only the open aggression of the forces of the Galactic Alliance under the leadership of the dictator Solo against the Jedi moved Skywalker Sr. to act. According to an agreement with him, Kyle and a group of Jedi loyal to him were to follow Jacen to check the connection of Solo Jr. with the dark side of the Force.

A brief fight with Jacen, attempts to protect the less experienced Jedi from the Sith, a lightsaber piercing a lung... These memories swirled in the dying Katarn's head as he lay helpless in the stinking filth of the Lower City. There was no regret, no fear. This day was supposed to be the last. So be it...

For the Jedi of a galaxy far, far away, directors and writers have prepared a rather difficult and at the same time honorable fate. The Jedi appeared to embody the most creative and life-giving traits of human nature, to contain and store age-old wisdom. Honorary position? Perhaps yes. But for the privileges they paid with a piece of their humanity. To satisfy the role assigned to them, some turned into a kind of impassive sages, while others became ageless ardent youths. And, alas, many of them are shown as too detached, wise or naive to be able to empathize with them. The archetype obscures everything.

Should we be surprised at Kyle Katarn's popularity among Star Wars fans after this? The unique charm of this character is that he is vulnerable and aware of it. He is "not positive"; as strange as it may sound, he is human. Of course, this is the merit of the writers who managed to describe the uncontrived and deep inner world of Kyle Katarn. Yes, to make it so that everything fits perfectly on the incredibly charming image of a daredevil and a cynic with a sense of humor created by the developers. Not all playable characters are so lucky, yes...

Oh yes, and finally ... I hasten to reassure, Kyle did not die. A penetrating wound and acute poisoning from the Lower City miasma is a weak argument for a former stormtrooper, rebel and teacher of the Jedi Academy. The books on Jacen Solo's rise to power are still waiting to be completed, and Katarn will play an important role in them. And who knows, maybe we'll see a Jedi with a shirt-guy face in more than one computer game.

    Until then, Kyle, get well...

    Here is some background information.

    Kyle Katarn.

    Homeworld Sulon
    Race Human
    Gender Male
    Height 1.8 m
Affiliation Galactic Empire, Alliance, New Republic, Galactic Alliance.
Incarnations Nick Jamison (voice, Star Wars: Dark Forces (hereinafter - the games will be indicated in English. Yaz.)); Jason Kurt (voice of Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II), Rino Romano (voice of Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith), Jeff Bennett (voice, Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast/Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy).

Kyle Katarn is a character from the Star Wars universe, the main character of Star Wars: Dark Forces and its sequels. Katarn suddenly became popular in the Expanded Universe, more popular than Mara Jade. His surname Katarn comes from the name of a predator in Kashyyyk. He was considered one of the strongest fighters in the Expanded Universe.

The son of Morgan and Patricia Katarn, farmers from Sulon, Kyle was recruited into the Imperial military academy on Carida when his mother was killed by a BT-16 security droid. Katarn became an Imperial stormtrooper, but his father secretly supported the alliance. During the attack on Sulon (officially - the attack of the alliance), he lost his father. Kyle started to hate the Alliance, and did a lot of prot Resurrection operations. In one of them, he infiltrated AX-456, the Alliance communications center located on the asteroid where the
anti-Imperial propaganda on the Barma sector, and was connected to similar centers on Haaldan and Kliapa. For the successful completion of this mission, the Empire presented him with a medal for bravery.

He soon met Jean Ors, a double agent (She worked for the Alliance), who told him that his father had been tortured and killed for treason. Kyle agreed to release (Apparently at this point, Jean was imprisoned, for her dual service) and protect her. He became a neutral mercenary. Jean introduced him to Mon Mothma, the leader of the alliance, and he became an important spy.

    Star Wars: Dark Forces

Katarn was never officially a member of the Alliance, but mostly took jobs from Mon Mothma. Kyle took on jobs that were too dangerous for normal Alliance employees. Kyle had Mandalorian armor that he stole on one of their missions.

Prior to the events of Episode 4, Katarn infiltrated an Imperial factory alone to obtain the plans for the Death Star. The plans were given to Leia Organa, who was pursued by Darth Vader.

After the Battle of Yavin and the destruction of the Death Star, the Empire deployed its Dark Troopers against the Alliance. After many reworks (including a fight with Jabba the Hutt and Boba Fett), Kyle defeated the Dark Troopers.

In the aftermath of defeating the Dark Troopers, Kyle oversaw attempts to declassify the cover of the alliance's elite commandos, and quickly created a group of agents. The organization became known as the Katarna detachment. Lieutenant Page, one of the cadets, took over after Kyle left. Kyle also took part in a mission to sabotage the second Death Star's superlaser, along with Corwin Shelvai, the force-sensitive Shire Bree, and Erling Treadway.

    Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II

A year has passed since the Battle of Yavin. Kyle paid a visit to the ghost of the Jedi Rakh, who spoke of his father's legacy. Morgan Katarn helped the Jedi Master secure the Jedi Valley. Kyle flew to the moon of Sulon, to his father's shop, and found the family droid ViGi there, who relayed his father's message to his son. After the end of the message, the droid threw Raha's lightsaber out of its vaults. Kyle took this sword, and almost immediately began to train before the battle with the assassins of Raha. He embarked on a journey where he fought a band of Dark Jedi led by Jerec. It was he who tortured and killed the Jedi and his father. During this voyage, he confronted six Dark Jedi who followed Jerec. He won but spared Yun. Then he killed Gos, Rick and Maul (Lost in translation, hehe), but in every battle he came very close to the dark side. His journey took him to the Valley of the Jedi, where the ghosts of the Jedi and Sith were imprisoned there after the Battle of Ruusan. It was a great concentration of power, where anyone who was in any way sensitive to power received great power. Jerec tried to take the power for his own purposes.

Kyle's ship, the Moldy Crow, was destroyed and he himself was knocked unconscious by the explosion. One of the last Dark Jedi, Sariss, and her adopted son Yun, found an unconscious Kyle. Wok, another Dark Jedi, destroyed Katarn's lightsaber. and flew off to help Jerec. Sariss wanted to kill Kyle. But Yun, impressed that Kyle spared his life, decided to stop her. But Sariss's sword twisted inexplicably, and dealt a fatal blow to Yun. When Kyle woke up, he heard Yun telling him that Kyle shouldn't die from a sneak attack, that he deserved a fair fight. Yun returned to the light before his last breath. Kyle raised the unfortunate sword and defeated Sariss without fear that he would fall into darkness (This will happen if you chose the path of light earlier. But if you chose the path of darkness, Yun will not save you and you will have to fight against both of them).

Kyle infiltrated the Jedi Temple and began a battle against the Vok. He was armed with two swords. But that didn't help him counter Kyle's amazing swordsmanship. There were two duels against Jerec. Jerec lost, and tried to turn Kyle to the dark side of the force (this is if you chose the path of light). Katarn threw the sword back at Jerec. Picking up a weapon, Jerec lunged at Kyle. Katarn dodged to the side, but placed his sword in Jerec's path, cutting off his arm to the shoulder. This proved fatal and Jerec died. Kyle freed the souls of the Jedi and Sith, captured many years ago by Lord Kaan.

If the player chose Dark Force, Kyle will take on the power of the Jedi Valley and become the new Emperor, but the standard (boring) ending is light.

After all the goodies, Kyle left Yun's sword behind and made his own for practice.

Luke Skywalker offered Katran training, but Kyle refused, for fear of falling to the dark side, refused.

Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith
It's been 5 years since the original Jedi Knight story Former Imperial Assassin (And also the Emperor's Hand) - Mara Jade goes through her training alongside Kyle Katarn (an obligatory detail in Jedi training after the Purge of the Nine Houses). While traveling to the lifeless planet of Dromund Kaas, two aspiring Jedi explore the graves of ancient Sith Lords. However, nothing in Star Wars just happens - Kyle falls under the influence of the dark side of the Force. Our hero would have remained in the clutches of Darkness, if Mara, who herself had been there, beyond, had not set him on the right path.

Upon learning of these events - Luke Skywalker spoke with Kyle. He said that no one but himself could deal with the Darkness inside .. Kyle was able to make friends with another Jedi - Corran Horn. But bad things happen at the Jedi academy with terrifying frequency, and it so happened that two Jedi went to the dark side. Katarn decided that he could not get rid of the Dark Side of the Force - and again went into the ranks of free mercenaries, passing his sword to Skywalker along the way, he returned to work with Jean Ors (see for yourself). Intelligence of the new Republic studied the work of Katarn. His tactics were given the name "bloodthirsty" for the fact that he left alive only a tiny fraction of his enemies, and then - for further interrogation. Kyle's work was what brought him to the planet Kejim.

    Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast

Jean Ors was captured by a Dark Jedi named Dessan and killed by his apprentice, Tavion. Enraged by the death of his partner, Kyle returns to the Valley of the Jedi, on Ruusan, where he restores his strength. But then the ghost of Kyle's father appeared. He warned that the Valley of the Jedi was dangerous, that with anger in his heart, Kyle could step into the dark side. He returned to the Jedi academy on Yavin 4, where he began training, in order to receive the sword back, which Luke Skywalker, who had also trained Dessan, kept. After that, Luke and Kyle searched the entire galaxy for Dessan to punish them as they deserved. During this journey, Kyle learns from Dessan's defeated apprentice Tyvion that Jean is alive. Kyle rescued Jean, and learned that Dessan had found the location of the Jedi Valley by following Katarn. The Dark Jedi created a dark "Risen" army that attacked the academy. But Dessan was defeated at the hands of Kyle, and his soldiers died at the hands of true Jedi.

After Dessan's death, Kyle decided to stay and become a teacher at the academy.

    Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

In this game, Kyle was given the role of a supporting hero. He became the teacher of two students, Jaden Korr and Rosh Pennon. Both students were talented and quickly adopted Kyle's strength and wisdom. Kyle's task in this game is to defeat the Sith cult known as the Disciples of Ragnos. Rosh fell to the dark side and joined the cult. Kyle met Dessan's former apprentice, the once spared Kyle, Tavion. She took possession of the staff of Ragnos, and was about to revive him.

The game again gave the opportunity to choose between the sides of the force. If the main character (Jaden) remained on the Light side, he saved Rosh and returned him to the Dark Force, defeated Tavion, and Mark Ragnos in the body of Tavion. If your choice is dark power, then Rosh died after being hit with Jedan's sword, killed Tavion, won with the help of Kyle's scepter, and became the new commander of the Empire.

But as usual (Boringly) the Light Side becomes the traditional ending.

Kyle became the ultimate swordsman, Luke's close friend, and respected master. He planned to kill the former arm of the Emperor Jend Drog. During the Southern Vong War, Kyle helped devise strategies against attackers, and took part in rescuing the Remaining. Near the end of the war, the planet Zonama Sekot agreed to help the Republic. Kyle was one of several Jedi who made the pact and used the Sekot fleet.

Kyle heard rumors about a Sith order. His mission was to find the order. During the mission, Kyle was captured by the Dark Jedi Dae (Dae))))) Azur Jamin, who apparently tried to seduce Kyle into TTS. After a successful rescue mission, led by Jean Ors and Jaden Korr, Kyle revealed everything he knew about the new threat. The force-sensitive Yujian Vong has been causing destruction in the galaxy, and it is clear that a greater threat looms over the galaxy.

Some time later, during the Killik Invasion, Kyle was one of the 4 Jedi Masters who attempted to destroy the dark nest. He spoke his mind at the Jedi Council. He and Corran Horn believed that Jaina and Zekk might be the next leaders of the dark nest.

    Capabilities.

Despite being self-taught, Kyle became one of the order's most powerful and respected masters. With relatively little training, Kyle defeated seven Dark Jedi, Vok, Gork, Pike, Maul, Sariss, Yun and then Jerec, it was amazing. Kyle again showed all his abilities when he confronted the Jedi Dessan. But Dessan was no weaker than Luke Skywalker himself! Kyle also showed a strong will, warding off many of Dessan's deceptions and tricks. During the events of the Academy, Kyle became the strongest sword fighter, successfully training Jadan Korr.

Kyle's style could be standard, or it could be his own. If the player chooses TTS in the Academy, Kyle will show a lot of physical attacks and forcefully knock out the saber. It should also be noted that Kyle learned many moves from the ghost of Ku Raha. During Dessan, Katarn used TTS and CCC. He became the most powerful Saberman, even stronger than Skywalker.

Prince Finn is a theory I’ve been seeing float around since the days of TFA and its probably one of the most known theories for Finn’s origins that doesn’t link him back to Windu or Lando. So I'll give my take on it.

    The theory

Many story elements from the old canon EU Legends had been retooled for the new canon. Finn Galfridian and Kyle Katarn were two characters from the EU that many think Finn was based off of.

Kyle Katarn was an Imperial Officer who would deflect and learn the ways of the force.

Finn Galfridian was the prince of Artorias who would go on to be trained by Luke Skywalker.

So Finn shares many similar concepts from Kule Katarn clearly, and I think Finn shares the more than just the same first name as Finn Galfridian.

The Possibility of Finn being a Prince

There's no reason why Finn couldn't be the Prince of Artorias in this new canon. The planet in the old canon didn't have the best defense system in place and it was one of the worlds to fall during the Yuuzhan Vong War.

The First Order taking over Artorias or at least kidnapping their prince would make a good deal of sense. Snoke could have ordered it so the First Order could extort the royal family, thus explaining how the First Order got it’s funding and resources.

I would also find it ironic because that means every time Hux has to get things repaired because of Kylo's tantrums, both of those fools owe Finn money.

It also works as a foreshadowing all the way back to TFA since Artorias is in the Outer Rim and that’s where Finn was heading to in TFA and thought of running away with Rey to.

How does it work with other theories?

Like I said in my Mandalorian Finn post, Finn can still be force sensitive. The old canon Finn was force sensitive so making the new canon would line up even closer to the old EU.

I do doubt Finn would be related to Lando or a Mandalorian if this was the case, but love is love and Luke was the son of royalty and a warrior so who's to say Finn can't get the same break.

Prince Finn's role in the Ep-IX

During the infiltration of Snoke's ship the Supremacy in TLJ, BB-8 hacked into the First Order's database and downloaded Finn's file. The file points Finn to his home planet of Artorias. Where Finn could take control of the planet as his rightful prince and return to his family.

Finn would of course continue fighting in the war, but with Artorias on the New Republic's side, they will give more funding and at least another ally.

It would also provide Finn the ability to have a home for the Stormtroopers if there is a stormtrooper uprising in Episode 9. Finn could allow the Stormtroopers that still want to fight to serve in the Artorias military. The Artorias having weak defenses could greatly benefit from having trained soldiers serve them and if the Stormtroopers would prefer a peaceful life, Finn can offer them a civilian lifestyle away from the judgment the rest of the galaxy would give them for their past, even offering them reparations.

I prefer Mandalorian Finn personally, but Prince Finn is my 2nd favorite theory for Finn’s origins. Plus it allows someone who was used to having nothing with the power to change everything.
